send ppm signal tu turnigy 9x with soundcard

Electronic projects that are either related to the firmwares for the 9x, or simply great for radio control applications.

send ppm signal tu turnigy 9x with soundcard

Post by look001 »

hey there,

i'm trying to control my transmitter with the pc. I found this solution in the internet: https://www.insecure.ws/fpv/audioppm_linux.html . I think that would be a very cool solution because it costs nothing. It uses the soundcard of the computer and sends audio signals that are similar to ppm signals to the transmitter. In my case the transmitter is the turnigy9x. Now i tried that out.
However if i connect my transmitter trainer port with the headphones-output of my computer my servos are not moving. :( Of cause i enabled the trainer mode on my transmitter.

To see what's going on i put the plug that goes into the transmitter into the microphone input of another computer. There i used a programm called zelscope for analysing the ppm signal.

here is what the computer generated signal looks like:
ppm2.PNG
ppm2.PNG (9.13 KiB) Viewed 7581 times
i also pluged the transmitter trainer port signal into this spectrum analyser. There i got this:
ppm.PNG
ppm.PNG (4.32 KiB) Viewed 7581 times

However now i have no idea what i can do to solve this. Can you help me, please?

Thank you very much!

Eepe and eepskye can do that easily :)
That is how I program my models. I program them on the computer while I see the surfaces move at the same time.
Will post a link when I get to tye PC later unless someone does it before.. :)

At first a want to say thank you! I searched for eepskye and found solutions with the arduino board. Is there a way to send ppm signals directly from the soundboard without an arduino so that i don't need more than a simple audio jack cable?

I don't think so.. The other way is with bluetooth, but you need a radio running ersky9x, and a blutooth module installed..
I remember that when this feature started being implemented, there were some reasons why using the sound card idea was discarded.. maybe the quality of the signal, but can't remember exactly what it was.
Eepskye uses Sbus, and sends 16 channels..

However according to this: https://www.insecure.ws/fpv/audioppm_linux.html i only need the sound card. And in this video it's also proved: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cxfqJqHYpQ

So What's wrong with it?

The amplitude of the signal from the sound card is too low for the 9X trainer input. Some other transmitters may work with such a low amplitude signal.

And there is definitely no possibility to use this method with any other configuration?

On a standard 9X, the trainer input is a logic signal to the processor. For the processor to see a logic 0, the voltage must be below 1.0V, and for a logic 1, the voltage must be above 3.0V. If you can bias the sound card output, using some extra circuitry, to be centred at 2.0V then this might work.

Maybe that circuit could do the job
