Horus "OpenTX" Bling

Post by jlummel »

I was able to order a Horus radio from horusrc.com during their recent holiday sale (first week in Oct) and got their 'Personalized Logo Laser Engraving Service' on the radio for free, so I decided to do an OpenTX logo.

So now that they are off holiday and filling orders again (yep, they had it in stock), they sent me a picture of my new Horus with the logo engraving before it ships and I thought I'd share it with the group (I rounded the corners on the OpenTX image I submitted, it just looks more polished):

Image

Beautiful, isn't she?? I should have it in a week or so! I thought I might play around with the stock firmware and then upgrade to OpenTX when there's an official Horus release. I just have to figure out how to get my Ivona Emma speech files converted over now...

I really loved the Taranis, I hope the Horus delivers as well!

Update Thurs 10/13 - Radio arrived today, that was fast!! Per the customs paperwork it was shipped directly from FrSky, which is kind of cool. The "OpenTX" logo engraving looks even better in real life than in the picture, and the radio itself just screams quality in the hand. I did learn the hard way NOT to use a microSD card that was less than a Class 4 as it would not work with with the USB till I replaced the Class 2 card I tried first with a Class 4. Taranis had this problem too, with needing a Class 4 or better card to work properly. I put a 16GB Class 10 on order from Amazon and should have that Saturday. I sure hope OpenTX 2.2 comes out of beta soon as I also picked up a Taranis X9E radio from Banggood for $200 (I've always wanted to try a tray radio) and I'd like to run the same OpenTX on each of the radios.

Off topic.
Hi, last week I received my horus and everything was going well. Today, just a moment ago I was going to turn it on and nothing happened only a red light is on. I long press, short press the radio power button and nothing happens. I am still using frsky default firmware, latest version, the 1.2.21, because I'm waiting for opentx stable to show up. Any ideas?
Thx.

Try unplugging the battery and connecting it again.

I have to open the radio and the warranty will be void, this is not a 70$ radio. But im pretty sure that would work.

How do you avoid the warranty on a radio that needs to be open to adjust the stick tension anyway? or can you adjust it from the outside? Or aren't you allowed to adjust stick tension to your liking on that expensive radio? ;)

Yes João you can adjust it outside. there are two holes for each gimbal at the back of the radio and with a proper key you can adjust.

Ahh ok, didn't know that, that's why I asked ;)
But still I find weird that you don't have access to the battery plug.

The Horus has a built in battery a bit similar with the taranis one, but flat and more voltage. and to have access to it you have to open the radio.

Opening the case is normal and doesn't void the warranty. You need to open it to adjust the throttle ratchet for example.

No you dont, there are 4 holes at the back that can do that with a proper key. There is a video in youtube showing that, at lesat that was what i understood.

edit: ah ok, the ratchet. I think the holes are for the tension, sorry. Then João is right. Ill do that right away.

It solved the problem, i unplugged the battery, waited for a minute (-+) and plugged back, its working fine again, untill the next frozen boot.
Thx for the enlightenment.

Sometimes radios do freeze unfortunately. Unplugging the battery fixes the problem most of the times. That was why I suggested it in first place ;)
Nice that is working now Octávio.

If the FrTx version (and bootloader) is recent enough when frozen normally pressing and holding the power button for >15sec should shut it down (when you release).

I had the same problem and pressed and held the power button for over 2 minutes (by a clock with a second hand...that is a LONG press.)
Removing battery cured the problem....for the moment. But went to OpenTx as was my original plan, just needed to upgrade the RF firmware.
I wonder if it is a low battery thing. My battery was very low, but I left the Red LED overnight so it might be what caused the problem. Although I would have thought the LED current drain was small.

Oh we can indeed live in hope!!!! Mike - you busy? :P
The simpleton asked "Hows about ErSky9X for Horus???". And the Genius from Dorset replied "Why not indeed? I shall get right onto it!" And then there was light on Horus! And it was good!

I may well manage this, but I only have a prototype main board and display, no case/sticks/switches etc.
It will need some time though!
