Had a Horus in my hands today, and had the chance to explore the frsky firmware a bit.
The quality of the hardware seems to be good ( at the price they sell it, it shouldn't be a surprise, right? ;) )
I have mixed feelings about the firmware though. I gotta say, I didn't like it, nor did I like the way we navigate the firmware.
The short period of time I was playing with it made me feel I was playing with an OpenFutabaTX. :) A mix between the two of them. Thank you very much but no thanks :)

The radio also felt a bit too big for my hands. Struggled to reach the sliders with my my indicator fingers while still moving the sticks with my thumb. Sticks feel good and seem to be of good quality..
It is a well built radio though. I like the power switch bling and the LCD is quite readable in the sunlight. I tried it. After adjusting the brightness I could read it..
Another thing I didn't like was the quality of the voice files, at least the ones I've heard..
I'm sure it is a great system, but not for me :) My 9x radios are doing really well still. :)

I guess not. Amber has much better quality. Shame that is a dead pack. Can't be updated with the same voice?
For me would be kind of useless as I don't like to use different voices.

I use now the TTSautomate tool that uses very good voices, and it is an excellent tool to quickly build my own good quality voice pack. It creates it in a few seconds, converts it, and creates and place the files and folders in the right place.

Anyway, the Amber pack is for openTX, I use Ersky9x. I could rename the files, but if I can't create new files it is useless to me.. :)

I have no idea what sounds FrSky ship with their firmware, but they must be somehow making them on their side since they're different from both OpenTX and ersky9x packs.

Probably made with one of the open source TTS engines like what we distribute as stock with OpenTX, they sound bad but all good engines have licensing complexities for distribution...

Must say I haven't played with their firmware much. A friend of mine uses it so when he needs help is about the only time I have to deal with it lol

Yes, that is true.. Even the ones we use cannot be distributed. I cannot post more packs if they are made with the TTSautomate voices. I was asked not to, and of course, I will not. But everyone can easily create their own packs. The correct phrase file is posted, so it is very easy for everyone to create their voice pack. And that we are allowed as far as I understand..

OK. For me amber is fine. Specially with maiden flights. That voice gets my blood pressure down

And amber it is one of the reasons, I run my Taranis in English.

Was missing a "gpson" and "gpsoff", but that was easy to generate in amber.

How do you generate a human voice without having the human to speak it for you? ;) :)
Because as far as I know, Amber was recorded by a person. You cannot generate the voices unless she does it.. :)

Gps.wav, on.wav and off.wav were there, just merged the wav files. ... Simple 8-)

That is cheating :) But normally if a new functionality is implemented that needs a new voice, you cannot create a voice message or alarm with that voice.. That is what I mean. Having a human voice is nice, but without being able to create new phrases, it is useless for me.. :)
TTS engines are getting better and Better. The ones TTSautomate uses are among the best in my opinion..
