FrSky also has their own update pathway that others have followed using dfuse. Believe it or not, there are far more Taranis in use with FrSky stock firmware than with updated OpenTX firmware. I don't recall the exact number, but when Bertrand stated how many downloads of 2.0 - it represented just under 10% of the number of Taranis sold so far and he was pretty excited about that. Even if that number was 5 times higher it still represents a huge number of customers that are either satisfied with the stock firmware, or don't have the inclination to change it.

I am one of the 10% users and am only one in my club downloading OTx directly, because of language barrier. There are more than 15 Taranises in my club, but all Taranis were updated by my notebook computer in the field.

We don't have other Taranis in my club, but people with 9xr never update it, so i believe that if they had a Taranis it was the same.

It is just to complicated for them.

Even though only a fraction of customers use PC Companion for Taranis (+), it is usually only a few % who has the know how to actually fathom what flashing Firmware is all about.

The people who have no idea - just really appreciate other clubmember who do. I am the only one in our club who perdiodically update Taranis' Tx. And I don't even own one. Waiting for the Horus...

But they still appreciate all the new features in their Taranis. So the fact that somebody they know can help them into the updated features is also a big jump in usability - even though they dont do the proces themselves.

I dont change the turbo of my car but I appreciate the guy who I pay to do it!

Met Frsky people at Shanghai Model Expo on 22th Aug.
Good news is, they said HORUS will be possible to flash to OpenTx.
Bad news is, the delivery time of HORUS will be two month after.
Normally when Chinese say two month, it means more than four month!

Fresh News from Aloft Hobbies

FrSky News - Horus
Screenshot_2015-12-11-22-46-49-1.png
There is a lot of buzz on the internet about the new radio from FrSky called the Horus. The Horus will be the top of the line and feature a brand new menu driven firmware developed by FrSky. This should make for an easier learning curve for users.

The new menu driven firmware has entered beta testing via a radio simulator that runs on a PC, and in the next month they should begin producing beta units of the radio for the next round of testing.

OpenTX fans have not been forgotten. FrSky made sure that the Horus will work with other firmwares and the OpenTX team is busy making a version for the Horus.

The Horus target price is around $500, the radio will feature a color touch screen, high end gimbals, bluetooth, wifi, GPS, 6 axis sensor, stereo speakers, and a lot more. We are not sure if all of these new features will be available at the time of release, but the radio should be ready to support it as soon as the firmware(s) catch up to the hardware. FrSky's goal is to produce a high end radio with top of the line hardware, the best display in the industry, top quality switches and so much more.

We will keep you posted as development progresses.

We wanted to share some exciting new details about the FrSky Horus. We told you a bit about the Horus in our last email, and shortly after we hit send FrSky shared some new photos of what we believe will be the final look of the Horus, and I have to say it is a thing of beauty.
We have been handling marketing samples of this radio at tradeshows for a while and I have to say that this new version looks incredible! Almost too pretty to take out flying.
This photo was taken outdoors to show off the daylight readable color IPS display, and it also features the new Alloy, Hall Effect gimbals.

Just today we received a sample Horus gimbal to share with you all.
We are very impressed by this gimbal. It is in fact all metal except some plastic that is bonded onto the metal crossbars to act as a bearing/cushion surface. Easy conversion to or from a throttle stick, fully adjustable tensions, etc. Everything you would expect, with a clean, compact and user friendly design. These gimbals should be available for the X9E tray radio also.

Most important question:
May they (the gimbals) fit to the 9X? :D

I herd that they do not, the mounting plate around the Horus Gimbals is larger.
These may fit better: (viewtopic.php?f=122&t=8269). ;)
The Horus will cost a lot. Maybe OK, it you have lots of money to throw at it.

I fly with my thumbs ao the hobbyking gimbals are not for me. If the horus gimbals are not to expensive, I would probably buy a couple. If the round part around the sticks is not bigger, I think the rest could be made to fit.

Definetly i wont buy the first batch, nor the second. With those prices one has to know if all systems are go. And to know it it's preferable to wait a bit.

I'm wondering how a thumb or me, a pinch flyer will use the slider pots? I guess as a pinch flyer I'll have my thumbs free?
I'm excited to see Frsky on the move up but it still has that tray flyer look and layout.
When I can officially hold one I'll know if it's for me. Keeping positive.

The strap attaches to the red metal cover on top of the power switch.

Looks clever, that way the weight forces that cover in closed position so that you can't turn the radio off by mistake when hanging from it.

Well, it doesn't look like you can attach a strap there :o but if you say so... You probably already have seen the radio. I haven't, and probably won't. Can't believe frsky messed up the nice design they had initially :(

The Screen at the top is a Plus :D (screen could be larger and not sure if it needs to be a color touch screen).
But I can not see any other advantage, which the Taranis can be modified to do for much less cost,
also the Taranis has a more normal layout of controls.
