Try this where?? Do you have a skyboard or ar9x board? ;)
Or you mean on the 9Xtreme?

Hi LTMNO,
Could you post picture of your Sky9x switch upgrade, because I am planing to do, also with my Sky9x radio.

I think I got confused on this... I have the (3x) 9x's M128 and the (2x) Xtreme, somewhere in my skimming of the thread I must have bounced over that part...
Not possible with 9x or the Xtreme? I have upgraded a POT to 3 Way if I am not mistaken before.

I guess this is only possible with the :
1)HOV Pitch
2)HOV Thr
3)Aux2 Pitch Trim

My bad...

Thanks from saving me from the efforts...

Pino, yes you can also do it on the 9x. No pot needed.
I will help when I come back home in a while.

No, this was for the 9XR-PRO. You want to know how to do it on a 9x radio, right?

Re: Switch Upgrades

Post by jhsa »

I just made this. I hope it helps.. And I hope it is correct :)
The atmega2561 has one more pin which is not on the picture. Mike can you please confirm that the m2561 also has PG5 and it is on pin 1?
Also PG2, PB7 and L-WR MUST be set as input before you assign them to a switch. If configured to output and you short them to ground with the switch, you could damage the processor??
Mike better put a resistor on these pins just in case?
Anyway, for me the best option is Pin35, PC0. A bit more difficult to solder to though..
Thanks

João

Hi João,

Thanks for the post...
From this diagram,
Image

it seems that :
PIN 41(PC6), 42(PC7), 43(PG2) & 35(PC0) & 17(PB7) are free.
I know we have used PB7 for haptic in the past.

PIN33(PG0) seems to be used by the RUD D/R already... from my diagram I have.

But to your point... Just add the switch wire to one end, the ground to the middle and existing switch wire to bottom.
Is this for a On-Off-On type switch? or Off-On-On?

No resistors required?

Thanks again.

Negative. Pin 41 and 42 are fore the telemetry mod. Pin 43 can also be used for haptic.
Pin 17 (PB7) was/is used for Backlight control before the parallel voice module (using the LCD lines) was implemented. With the parallel voice module it is used as CLK I think. With the serial voice module is free and can be used for a switch. Pin 17 was never used for haptic as far as I know.

I said I wasn't sure about it ;)

Add the NEW switch wire to the top, the ground to the middle and existing switch wire to bottom.
Yes, as far as I remember. Mike, no resistor need here?

On-Off-On

Absolutely... I thinkI am going to rough in a few connections so that I can pull of them via a servo connect to 2 of the lines when needed.
Pin35 and 43.

Thanks again...This will happen after i get OpenLRS working on my 9xtreme.
I have a OrangeRx Module that i need to modify. ;-)

What I do is to use a small piece of stripboard glued to the PCB. Then I connect fine, solid core wire (kynar) between the pin(s) and the stripboard. Now, I can solder flexible wire to the stripboard to make the connection to the switch, and it is easy to remove that wire from the stripboard leaving the connection to the processor untouched. This way, you can connect to all the pins on the processor you might need just once, then leave that alone.

Mr Joao, I finally got my other 9x mod'd to use the SP Basic only for programming and exposed all the other important pins for modifications.
I was confused abit about the MegaSound now.. as I know there is some new thing where you don't have to use all the LCD lines anymore...
But I still broke out the DO-D3, PB7, PG2(Haptic), PC0((Pin35)3Way Switch), PD2 & PD3(Serial Lines?) and did the Telemetry MOD to Cut and Map with Resistors for the PC6, PC7 or Pin 41/42 Respectively.

I did the Trim Fix with 1K resistors...

I don't think I left anything out... every breakout has a female connector on it:

Image

Did I leave anything out?
ABBC3_OFFTOPIC
My real question is... is there anything special to do to the BackBoard for Telemetry? I see threads on 9xr that modify the back board for DJT Modules, etc... fixing Pin2 and Pin5. Is that the way to do it? I am going to use OLRS in this one.. or XJT... So I think connecting to PIN5 is the way to do with the Tx wire of the Telemetry Mod?

Thanks for your help.. I always have used TeZ and SP2.4 boards... I have a TeZ but opted out of using it... for the space.

Are you competing with me at modding these radios? ;)
What about rotary encoder and serial voice module? I can see that you already have the wires connected for the serial. Pins 27 and 28 ;)

Is your DJT Modded? If so, how? You will need a level converter to connect the DJT to the m64. The DJT is RS232 levels and the atmega is TTL level.

Even if didn't mod the DJT, you can isolate pin 2 of the module bay anyway, just in case one day you forget and insert a modded DJT in the radio. Pin 2 is grounded on both sides of the backplate, so you need to cut tracks on both sides..

But please answer the question above and we can go from there.. ;)

Re: Switch Upgrades

Post by LTMNO »

haha.. I hear you on these mods.. they take forever.. I can vouche for the fact that Xtreme Board is well worth its price in GOLD.
okay,
I just isolated the Pin2 and Pin5, I don't have DJT.. I will use oRLS.. that uses Pin5 and my Tx is mod'd for that already...
I guess putting breakout wire for the Pin2 is not bad to have afterall.
My board is M128, I am fortunate to have bought a FrSky Coverter 3 yrs ago.. and never used it. Is that only for the DJT or for any Tx wanting to use Telemetry? does the XJT need it?
Image

Oh, i have the Rotary Encoder.. but not putting it in this radio...

Using a Level converter depends on the TX module. I'm not sure on the XJT..

Pin 5 doesn't need do be isolated as it only connects to that huge pad that was before for the FM antenna. You could have connected the telemetry to that pad.. Now you will have to solder it to the pin

PoweSound9x?? :o what is that?

And do you mean the commercial MegaSound9x? I think it can be flashed with the serial firmware.. I still didn't modify my Megasound boards, actually I don't need them anymore as I built the ArduVoice module which uses an arduino and works with serial.. It is installed in my last radio with an atmega chip, m2561..

Post by redear »

Please help. I swear I have read the whole thread. Two times. Yet I am not really sure I understand correctly. Please give a dumbproof response :)
I have 9XR Pro radio, no mods done. R218 FW. I need three 3Pos switches, so need to add two.
From the posts, I understand the latest and easiest way to do this is
- replace ELE switch with a 3Pos switch, the original wires go where they were (GND is center on the 3Pos switch?)
- add 4k7 resistor to the third position on the switch and wire that to D2 on LCD connector
- same for GEA, wire the third with the 4k7 resistor to D6 on LCD connector
In Hardware menu, set ELE to EXT1 (LCD2) and GEA to EXT2 (LCD6)
so the switch uses the original ELE or GEA as the middle position and the LCD2 or LCD6 as the third position.

corect or am I utterly wrong? I can do some good soldering if I am told "this goes here and that goes there"... thanks a lot. this forum and your support is a vast and very handy resource...
