Translations

Post by MikeB »

I am adding language options into ersky9x (including for the new 9XR-PRO). I could do with some help with translating.
The 'master' file is en.h, but the text is copied to the other files already.
If you want another language/can translate to a language likely to be needed, take a copy of en.h and translate it.
In general, don't make any text get longer than it already is. Some text is of the form:
"\004OPT1OPT2OPT3"
the \004 is octal (base 8) indicating each option is 4 characters long.
Latest copies including codes for 'special' characters.

I have translated the file into Swedish. I assume that you are not planning to add extended character support, so I have replaced the Swedish characters åäöÅÄÖ with aaoAAO.

When I get a bit of time, I'll also use se.h for er9x.

I'm hoping to get the support in for special characters for the languages (e.g. åäöÅÄÖ for Swedish). If/when I do, I may ask for a second pass with these characters included.
Thanks to openTx for the fonts of the characters.

Putting the special chars back is really easy, compared to the translation, so I would gladly do that.

I've re-posted the .h files in the first post. Those languages with 'special' characters will now have font support for them. It is slightly messy to enter them, you need to use the 'octal character constant' to define them in the text.

Thanks for any updates from anyone.

I have no problem inserting the character codes, but I think that you will find that in the long run it is easier to use the script the openTX build machine uses to convert unicode header files. (with language specific characters) into proper header files (with character codes). That way the translators are spared from hand encoding character codes, which is easy enough for German (2 characters) , harder for Swedish (6 characters) but outright impossible for Czech (24 characters).

Sorry if any of the numbers are slightly off, I am pulling them from memory. It might have been Portuguese which had the most special characters. But regardless it is difficult to get it right by hand.

Thanks, I've also got a German translation update.

I will look into using the script method, just, like all things, need a bit of time to do it.

I'll translate well to the Turkish language. I need some help. Is it enough and I turn in the en.h.txt file? How am I going to throw it 9xrpro?

That file is a translation for openTx, you have posted it in the translations thread for ersky9x.
