ERSKY9X Coding

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

I removed c25 only.
I think short was gone.
Trim switch ok, and J6's 7 and 8, 9 and 8, are open.
Still elev trim down and maintenance mode don't work.
Other function is OK.
I don't have any idea any more.
By the way, are you night owl ?
Thank you for your help.

This is weird. You did have a shorted cap there apparently. Did you measure the cap after removing it just to make sure?

Can you please measure the voltage between pins 7 and 8, also 9 and 8? Or if you want find a better ground instead of pin 8, in case it is difficult.
You should expect around 3.3V on both pins 7 and 9 when the switches are open or not connected, and 0 V when the switches are pressed.

Yes I am normally a night person :) since a long long time :D

Ok, not looking good. Let's try something crazy..
move the IDx and GEAR switches to different positions. Then check the trim operation again, and the voltage at pin 7.

IDx and GEAR SWs to different positions and every combination of these doesn't change situation.
Voltage of pin 7 stays 0.23v.
I find elev trim run away to full down trim every time, when I switch on TX with J6 removed.

Can you please measure again the resistance between pin 7 of J6 and ground? Disconnect the battery of course.

I am starting to suspect we have a damaged processor here.. :(

I clean up my probe of tester then measure pin7 and 8.
Strange, in 200 ohm range, it shows about 100 ohm then quickly to infinity.
It looks like some cap is there.
Is this what you say ?

have a look at pin72 of the processor with a magnifier to see if there is any short.. also, turn the board around to see the soldering of J6. Check for shorts between the pins.. I'm running out of ideas..

Now, TX back to normal.
Your suggestion was BINGO !
My day has come !
Sorry to say I removed wrong cap, that was c29.
This morning, I removed right c25, then everything back to normal.
What was my measurment of those pins ?
Sorry to waste your preciouse time.
Thank you for your patience.
Now I'm very happy.
But PCB shows very complicated.
Easy to mistake.
At first I removed cap right next to printed c25.
My bad.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

As i said before. the latest Ar9x production had serious problems with bad caps.. Normally the board goes back to works after removing them, which is good.. The problem is finding them. But with the schematic, it is not that difficult :)
Well done again..

Thank you for helping me again and again.
I think I was happy, because cap failed when I wasn't fly the fixed wing model and also not big one.
Run away trim is very serious and scary.
Is it better to remove caps on all channel ?
What for these useless caps ?

And I never heard of this issue on another TX, these are TARANIS, Qx7 or FUTABA.
9x and ersky is very good and love it, because I can update multi firmware with only TX.
I am happy now, but hesitate to fly big one with 9x.
How do you think ?

When i said see below, I meant that you should have a look at the picture I have posted :)
I personally think that if the radio had more damaged caps you would already know it..
Did that trim ever worked before?

I think you should put that board on test for a while before you fly anything that you care about :)

Sorry I couldn't fined out your pics posted before.
Is this spent too much time to find out solution ?

My 9x board is 2nd one, I broke first one with short circuit by myself. ( T o T )
2nd one works perfectly for 4 month and suddenly go runaway elev trim.
That is why I worried about and hesitate to fly big one.

My question is ... "You know what? I will celebrate this one, see below"

Mike,
ErSky9x version22x on 9XRPro:
1. Please correct me if I am wrong, but the only way to insert a new welcome message for power-up is to put another welcome.wav in the system folder? Which means I need to be connected to a computer to do it? Is there a way to replace that file (or, better, nominate another) from within the radio without being connected to a computer (or using the SD card in a computer)?

2. Request: On the Safety Switches page, if you change a switch type (specifically, the Ch3 Throttle Cut) from 'S' to 'X' (for example), all settings in that switch line are re-set to default, overriding whatever was there before. If you don't notice that change happening, the Ch3 throttle level is set to '0' (i.e. 50% throttle). Can you make it so that a change of one item in the line does not change all the other items in the line that can be legitimately be left alone, but leaves them as they are unless they are also changed by the user?

ozphoenix

1. You are correct, you need to replace the welcome.wav file.
2. Not directly. The problem is you (currently) step through 'A' and 'V' to get to 'X'. Negative numbers are not valid for the 'A' option, so it gets changed to 0.
A (sort of) workaround to change 'S' to 'X' directly is to press and hold the MENU button while you edit the 'S' setting. This increments values by 20, so the 'S' will change to 'X' without going through 'A' and 'V'.

'A' and 'V' are really obsolete since there are 36 voice alerts, but I've left them in for backwards compatibility.
I'll add a change so that, for the first 8 channels, editing the 'S' setting (increasing it) will go from 'S' to 'X' directly. From 'X', decreasing will step through 'V' and 'A'. This should preserve the 'S' values.

That is a good idea Mike :) Better yet would be to remove the V and A switches. I don't think they are necessary anymore and you already gave enoughtime for people to change them to Voice Alarms instead. Then you wouldn't need a rain dance so the throttle cut value is kept when changing from S to X or back.

I have a question.

Are A3 and A4 analog inputs supported by the D protocol as well?
Could you please implement the "Range" setting for them in the telemetry menu?

Thanks

Re: ERSKY9X Coding

Ok, understood for #2
For #1, can I add a request to (one day, sometime, when you have time) allow for changing the file that is played by selecting in the radio menu, like other voice files? The background and an example of use is that I did a full upgrade of a friend's 9XRPro radio this week (mentioned to you by me some time ago, from r212 to Release 220) and he is VERY computer non-literate and will never maintain the radio via computer. So, to help remind him of 1-2 things, I put a very short .wav message in place of the welcome.wav file. Once he gets tired of the message (or, remembers the right things!) I can easily replace that welcome.wav with a regular message, but only if I take my pc to the field :(
Maybe others have other reasons to want to be able to select a new welcome.wav without using a pc :)

ozphoenix

Mike, if I set a Voice alarm switch to "ON" and select a voice file, shouldn't it play when I turn the radio ON? Or am I missing something? I thought it was implemented some time ago to play a voice at power ON..

Thanks

Sort of! The welcome.wav message is a radio (global) message at power on. Voice alerts are model specific, so one would need to be configured in each model, and it would play every time that model is selected.
The trigger options for a voice alert are:
ON, OFF, BOTH, ALL, 2-30, and ONCE.
You would use ONCE for this purpose I think.

Any use for a few RADIO voice alerts, so global ones not model specific? I might be able to add some if they are really useful.

That's the one.. Forgot about it.

If you implemented some global voice alarms, in which menu they should go? The general menu is getting crowded. Maybe sub nenus would be an option?

For my vote - I forgot that it would need to be put into every model -- my club-mate only has 6-7 models, so putting such messages into each model might not be so bad. but I already have 20+ planes and several 'test' models, so it would be a pain (though, I probably don't need it for my own use).

So, I'm in favour of globally-set message files on a 'radio' menu :)

Apologies for imposing extra work :(
