ERSKYTx (was ersky9x) Questions

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

I think , your correct about a bug in the sound system...it does not seem to be playing "internal" sounds when set to speaker and no SD card inserted.
With the SD card ...I get sounds.

Maybe I didn't understand well. but if you cease transmitting with a model on, your model's motor might go crazy if you don't have failsafe set..

firmware update problem

Post by hendrix »

Ok then, its good to know that it is only a bug.
In any case i don't intend to be the only one without an sd card
I already have one 8Gb but i think it is an overkill and a 2Gb should suffice, am i wrong?

Yes i was typing a little fast yesterday trying to understand what was going on and i wasn't clear.
I mean disable rf transmitting when you programm the radio only without actually having the model
powered on or even near you.
Think of someone late at night sitting on the couch programming some mixes or simply playing with various options of the radio, Hitec Aurora has it and my older Royal Evo 12.
The radio during power up asks you if you want to transmit or not.
Alternatively you power up while holding a key and the transmitter is deactivated.
I understand what you mean about powering up a model with the rf off.
About throttle lock.
I think it is a great safety feature to have throttle locked always activated after power up and having to actually press a key in order to enable the throttle output.
My Royal evo has this feature and has saved me a lot of times from embarrassment.

OK, it IS a bug, and I have the fix for it. I'll put a new revision up later today, need to check a couple of other changes first.
I give priority to voice, and discard system sounds if voice is playing or about to play. It doesn't seem right to let a few seconds of voice play, then send a bleep because you pressed a button 3 seconds ago! But if you have no SD card, the voice queue gets full so stopped system sounds because you were about to play a voice, but it never happened.

Well, I don't know about the ersky board, but the stock er9x can do that.. just insert a jack plug into the trainer output with the main switch off.. it will power the tx but not the RF module.. :)

I believe the ersky9x board does the same thing, it definitely turns on when something is plugged into the trainer jack even when the main switch is off. I don't know for sure if the rf module gets power or not though.

Talking about voices... I've posted a made from scratch full set of system voices with many extras here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1295#p18964

I'm enjoying a LOT my ERSky9X radio. Mainly now that I'm using the official LCD. That is amazingly better than the old blue LEDs from HK!!!
I've bought two from DigiKey as backup ones. =)

SD card boot-up bug

Post by Playmobil »

Hi Mike,
I've updated to r97. Thanks by your great work! ;)

Looks like it still has a minor bug around SD.
Every time the radio is turning ON with no voices or sounds coming out.
So I need to take the card out and reinsert it. So all the voices start working perfectly.

You might need to touch up the contacts on the SD card , there are two at the back which are for the "card detect "
Even though they look soldered , touching all of them up , will usually fix it.

Yeah. Thanks Brent!
I saw it though a microscope. Those pads were kinda floating.
Looks like it's working fine now. =)

Hi Brent and Mike,

Unfortunately there is something more to check.
The SD card is now perfectly soldered.
However the error got back.
I believe that's about the SD card reading on boot-up.

Below is what I see on debug screen every time it happens:
Looks like it's not reading completely (due to all those "FFFF" on the "SCR" row).

Code: Select all

Just adding some more infos: I did test it a lot more.
Even starting without the card and inserting it the first time. The error occurs.

So, confirming...
These registers are always OK:
-Card Identification (CID)
-Card Specific Data (CSD)
This one is failing on first read:
-Card Configuration (SCR)

Looks like there is some special features on my card (maybe SDHC?).
Probably it needs to be read properly and configured on the SCR register in order to work.
The card is a Kingston SDHC 4G (SDC4/4GB)

I'll have a look through the bits of the registers when I get a moment, got several thing on at present and there are a lot of bits to go through.
At the top of the screen, does it say Ready 0008 always?

I just tried a 16Gb card in my trans. It wouldn't work and had similar CID CSD to Playmobil's. SCR was all FFFF. My 4 GB card works fine as usual.

Yes. The top is always "Ready 0008 0001".

@Cre8tiveleo, maybe that's because your card is faster than ours? Yours is Class 10.
Mine is Kingston SDHC 4G (SDC4/4GB). Looks like it's Class 4.

I certainely hope it is the sd spd causing the issue. I have 2 class10 16G by Patriot lined up for audio (er9x and Sky9x). ;)

I know sd spd does affect the video access/record , but did not realize audio would make such a difference too. My 9x should be here in 4 days, will find out soon.

I sent a PM to Playmobil with a test version of ersky9x that does better checking of the read of the SCR register from the SD card. This appears to solve the SD card problem reported. I'll release a proper revision soon with this fix in it.

Mike.

About midnight, revision released!

Re: ERSKY9x Questions

I haven't implemented a vario function in er9x/ersky9x (yet?). There is one in open9x. Im have found the FrSky sensor reading does jump around somewhat. There is also the situation with the two different versions of the hub firmware, one version only gives whole metres, the other gives fractions as well, but since the whole numbers jump around I don't think the fractions help much.

How well does the open9x vario implementation work using the FrSky altitude sensor, particularly with only the whole metres reading? Anyone know?

I can add the vario implementation to ersky9x easily, er9x may have flash/RAM limitations.

The open9x vario is superb! I am sure it will be ported to ersky9x before long.

I don't believe it will ever be used on the stock board due to the CPU hit!

For best use, the frsky sensor is to be avoided. It is just not accurate enough. (but does work) I use the winged shadow thermal scout. This works very well.
