USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 computer
Problem Subject: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 computer.
Need help connecting with new v3 Sky9x Board in 9xRadio to my Win7 64 bit computer using the USB cable.
I have installed SAM-BA 2.12 program with its SAM-BA 2.12 PATCH program to my computer.
I have been working on this for weeks and now I am so confused with many parts and bits of information that I am totally confused and discouraged.
When connecting the two Devices together using the USB cable and I get the failed results of: unknown device, unidentified device, no driver found,
device driver software was not found, other device no drivers found, Windows does not recognize device, Windows was not able to install unknown device,
Windows could not find driver software for your device, update driver software device not found, unknown device.
There are no instructions to follow when the device is unable to be recognized by Windows.
So what do you do? I believe I've read and collected all the information there is to get about this problem.
So what do you do?
I installed successfully the new SKY9x Rev 3.0 Replacement 9x Board into my Turnigy9x Radio and made an access hole for the mini USB cable.
I installed a 15GB micro SD card; with the CR2032 3v Lithium Battery, and it came with the 5V upgrade Switching Regulator for use with 3S Lipo batteries
and also installed the 8-Ohm Speaker. So this part is working good! And so my Windows 7 64bit computer is working well.
I do not understand why the new SKY9x Rev 3.0 Replacement 9x Board with its mini USB device is not being recognized or how to remedy the problem.
Need help.

sounds like the USB driver isn 't installed. I think the driver is in the SAM-BA download.

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
I am using win7 64. once you connect the usb, check window to see if the device is there. I believe you need to turn on the power to connect for V.3 board. (someone correct me if this is incorrect) V. B you don't need to turn on the power. Did you specify the correct com port in samba/C9x?
you have to follow the sky9x installation wiki down to the 'T'. ie, copy certain files to certain folder, ect.... or you will get a error message.

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
With mine I have to plug the cable in to the radio and computer, then turn on the radio. This gets me into programming mode.

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
Installation procedure:
1. Download SAM-BA v2.12 program, There are TWO program files to down load.
http://www.atmel.com/tools/ATMELSAM-BAI ... AMMER.aspx 1a) SAM-BA 2.12 for Windows (XP, Vista, Seven editions)
(6404396, updated July 2012) Install file for the SAM-BA package.
SAM-BA v2.12 User's Guide is included in the package.
2a) SAM-BA 2.12 Patch 2a (Windows XP, Vista, Seven editions)
(2441488, updated October 2012) Install file for SAM-BA 2.12 Patch 2a.
2. Install these TWO SAM-BA program files.
A web page will open up (ATMEL SAM- BA ® USB Notice) with instructions about how to connect the USB cable
between your Sky9x radio and your SAM-BA computer program.
3. Connect the USB cable from your Computer to your Sky9X Radio.
4. Power on your Sky9X Radio.
Your Win7 Operating System on your Computer will see a Strange USB Device connected to it.
Your computer should recognize the USB device and install the USB drivers for your Sky9X Radio Board.
But what I am getting is a failure to recognize the Sky9X Radio Board USB device.
I am getting the messages of Unknown device!
And so at this point the process stops because the USB device is not recognizable.
At this point everything is stopped I cannot move forward and do anything else.
This is the point where I need help.
Is there anyone who can help me with this problem?

I am using v.B. I think V.3 installation should be the same. in your procedure, it seems you did not install the tcl_lib for sam.

Hi bob195558, I am using win7 with sam-ba_2.12. try this.
(1) Download and install samba_2.12.
(2) Instll the patch.
(3) Install tcl_lib file.
(4) Connect your radio to the computer, Switch on radio, then run sam-ba.
(5) Now select your board (At91sam 3s4-9x) from within the dropdown panel in sam-ba. Click connect. If all is well you should see a screen showing some eeprom details. Quit sam-ba.
(6) Now open control panel, Go to device manager. switch radio of and unplug from computer.
(7) Plug radio in again and switch on, this time you should see an unknown comms device appear. Right click on this device and select update driver. Click browse my computer for software.
(8) Now click on browse button and navigate to:- C:\program files (86) /Atmel/sam-ba_2.12/drv, (or where ever you installed sam-ba). Click OK then click install software anyway. This should install the usb driver. if you go back to device manager you should now see the usb driver (At 91 sam 3s4-9x). Done. now you need to configure companion9x to work with sam-ba.
(8) Plug in radio again, switch on, run companion9x click on tools symbol, third symbol from right top. In the window that appears confgure the path to read:- ( C:/Program Files (x86)/companion9x/sam-ba.exe) then change the comport to that as shown in sam-ba. Job done.
Hope this help. I am no expert but it works for me. Try it and see how you get on. Good luck.

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
I will have to check out this Install tcl_lib file.
I am not sure I saw this part.
I remember reading some thing some where about it, I think.
But may have not been clear and where one would find it.
I do not know what this file is and why.
I will have to check out. Thank You for the info.

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
It is how samba communicate with Sams processor (your tx cpu). copy the folder 'at91sams4-9x' folder after unzip under smaba program :
C:\Program Files (x86)\ATMEL Corporation\sam-ba_2.11\tcl_lib
(I use samba 2.11, yours would be \sam-ba_2.121)
C:\Program Files (x86)\ATMEL Corporation\sam-ba_2.11\tcl_lib

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
These are instructions I have written up and would like you to review them and let me know if they are correct or not.
I am working on these in hope they may be an added help for newer people like my self.
These instructions are for the setting up of the SAM-BA software and USB connection, between the 9x Radio with the new v3 Sky9x board installed.
The first part of instructions is installing SAM-BA v2.12 Computer Program into our Win7 Computer.
The Second Part of the instructions are for adding the at91sam3s4-9x file into the tcl_lib folder of the SAM-BA Computer Program.
The third part is for finding and installing the USB drivers into Win7 computer.
And the Fourth is not written yet, but will be about the Co-Processor Utility.
Which I am not fully understanding as to what this part is all about and could use some better info about it and why we need it.
This is what I have so far, please review what I have and let me know if it is in proper order and not missing any pertinent info from A- C.
A) 1a) Install SAM-BA v2.12 program into your Win-7 computer. (SAM-BA program)
B) Add SAM-BA libraries files to the tcl_lib folder in SAM-BA v2.12 Program.
1b) Download SAM-BA libraries to your computer. Zip-file is labeled SAM-BA.zip.
[tab=30] Unzip this file, you will see folder labeled: SAM-BA . Open this file, there are
[tab=30] three files labeled: at91sam3s4-9x , common , boards.td .
2b) Next Copy and Paste these 3 files to the tcl_lib folder. Follow path to tcl_lib folder:
[tab=30] C: / Program Files (x86) / Atmel / sam-ba_2.12 / tcl_lib
3b) Propose: when opening SAM-BA v2.12 computer program a screen pops up
[tab=30] and you need to (1) Select the connection: \USBserial\COM4
[tab=30] (2) Select your board: at91sam3s4-9x (3) Click: Connect
C) Install USB driver for SAM-BA computer program.
1c) Connect the USB cable from your Computer to your Sky9X Radio, powered OFF.
2c) Power ON your Sky9X Radio. If auto install USB drivers pops up and you are able
[tab=30] install the USB drives skip the rest of C).
3c) If when you power ON your Sky9X Radio and No auto install USB drivers pops up,
[tab=30] you have a problem. SAM-BA and Win7 operating system do not find the USB
[tab=30] drivers and you only have the messages of Unknown Device!
[tab=30] What do you do, to fix this problem?
4c) To fix the problem go to start menu, Click: START / 2 Clicks Devices and Printers /
[tab=30] a screen pops up, Right Click: Unknown USB Device / Click: Properties / a screen
[tab=30] pops up, Click: Hardware / Click: Drivers / Click: Update Drivers / 2 or 3 Clicks or
[tab=30] more on: Browse two or several times click until the Search Screen pops up.
5c) In the Search Screen 2 Clicks on: computer / 2 Clicks on: C: drive Folder / 2 Clicks
[tab=30] on: Program Files (x86) / 2 Clicks on: ATMEL / 2 Clicks: sam-ba_2.12 /

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
you probably don't need to worry about Attny coprocessor program for now. My understanding the V.3 board is loaded with the latest Attny program already. It is for your RTC (real time clock) and other function that is yet to be implemented.
Load your er9x/open9x you will find out which version of the Attny you have in your board.
There is a thread/post already how to load the attny program. if you still need it I will send it to you when I get home.

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
New problem:
I have Paste the at91sam3s4-9x file into the SAM-BA v2.12 program, tcl_lib folder.
And when I start SAM-BA v2.12 program and the selection menu pops up and
when I search for at91sam3s4-9x in the selection menu, at "select your board" the at91sam3s4-9x is not there!
I believe I have followed the instructions properly, But its not there!
Can you see where I am making the error in my instruction procedures? .....___.... Look at B) __ 1b - 2b ___ above.

when I search for at91sam3s4-9x in the selection menu, at "select your board" the at91sam3s4-9x is not there!
I believe I have followed the instructions properly, But its not there!
Can you see where I am making the error in my instruction procedures? .....___.... Look at B) __ 1b - 2b ___ above.

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
you need to copy all the files in the ZIP to the folder.....not just the at91sam3s4-9x file.
The other files , contain the selection list for the file

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
There are a lot of these directions already on the wiki. Here They need a little cleaning to be easier to follow, but it is how I got mine flashed and working. My v3 board had a coprocessor version 4?? And I think that is now version 5, I remember updating that at one time.

Re: USB Connection Failing between Sky9x board and Win7 comp
The coprocessor send the state of three input pins to the Arm processor, along with some debug data to do with the temperature measurement in the co-processor. At present the Arm does nothing with this extra data.
