SKY9x Ver 3.0

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

Funny that you point the people to a complete unfair review where the reviewer didn't even try the radio and knows nothing about it??
If you want to see a good review from the pro, see here: At least this guy knows what he is talking about and took his time to go to the bottom of the radio, literally.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoE5oGDsgug

The first review of the pro from Bruce at RcmodelReviews is absolutely rubbish, biased and not credible.. he did nothing with the radio to call that video a review.

The pro has a improved skyboard inside.. If you also want stuff like haptic, bluetooth, and few other goodies that come later go for the pro.. you buy a complete radio for the same price the skyboard was selling and designed by the same person. If you are into modding and already own a battery and RF module, that is where the things get better.. have a look here:

viewtopic.php?f=122&t=5659&p=80504#p80481

The pro ships with ersky9x which is a very good and very known open source firmware. Also if you are into DSM, the radio already supports DSM telemetry and could possibly expand to other systems..

Do we really have to restart the whole thing over on each and every post asking about either of the radios? It's really getting tiring in the end.

For how much? With all the new radios models out there now I may have waited too long? I have several new boards pulled out for my skyboard installs.

Sorry, local club members used up my 9x spares. I'm keeping my working 9x sky board 9x as well.
I expect to see many stock 9x TXs at local RX swap meets soon as more graduate to the talking Spektrums, Taranis, or HK Pro's. There must be thousands or more out there by now.

Hi GTiDon,
GTiDon wrote:Hi, What is the safe low and high voltage range to use on Sky9X 3 ?
First there is info here about your Sky9x V3 board: (http://openrcforums.com/wiki/index.php/ ... rd_Upgrade).
And when there see:
Sky9X Mainboard Upgrade wrote:Battery requirements: It will run fine on any DC voltage, within the range of 6-11 volts.

But this also depends on what type of batteries you are using
and if your Sky9x V3 board has the Upgrade-5V Switching Regulator.
GTiDon wrote:IE is both safe a 2Cell Lithium pack and a 3 Cell Lipo?
I am not sure about this part: Powering the system with a 3S LiPol/LiIon battery, in that it says the
needing to remove at R49 (10ohm) resistor or diode, and is this also required for the Sky9x V3 board ? :?:
I have one of the last Sky9x V3 board made and I am using a LiPo 3S battery and at that time I though this was OK as long
as I had the Upgrade-5V Switching Regulator.
Maybe Skynorth will see this, and update us about this part. :D

The board will run fine with a 3S lipo .if it has the switching regulator upgrade , then ....even better..no issue at all.
If you have the linear regulator , it may run a bit hot...if using loud audio outputs frequently..

The change on the Rev B board was to prevent leakage current flowing back through a diode and causing the radio to switch to USB mode..
The has been changed and the USB system works differently now.

I’m taking my rev c out of long long time storage and have a few questions on latest updates that can be added. It’s doing nothing and should be!
I’m using a dedicated modified Dht module as we did at the time.
I’m thinking for 2018 adding a xjt module may be more universal to my mixture of D and X receivers.
I could use some wiring and connection info. I’ll reread the link posts as the answers may be there, but there may also be newer info not added?
I’d also like it to be able to use a multi mode module, flashed HK and 4in1.

Checking it out, I seem to have the upgraded display and a rotary encoder and switching regulator as upgrades Brent added to my setup when delivered.

Has anyone heard from Brent recently? I see his skynorth website is gone. I’ve emailed at the last address we used when I just used to say hi every so often over he years, but no reply.
I know he was busy with new designs for RC systems for development companies.

As long as the bottom pin of the module bay connector is connected to the COM 1 input for telemetry, then a XJT module (and the others) should just plug in and work.

Is your DHT module built in permanently? If so, you may need to arrange to be able to power it off while using the XJT.

I last had contact (e-mail) with Brent in late January.

Seems like yesterday we were all discussing a new skyboard and pro board being designed. Time sure flys, more than I do lately in fact.

Yes.
I’m not at the computer now but downloading it several times, I got the same can’t run error.
I can post the exact error for you to see but later. You can see it tomorrow.
I got the new update available enemies I ran 419 but when I tried it there I git the server error.
I believe that’s normal and why I went to the new site.

I just ran it (at least the copy I have that I uploaded) on Win 10 and it ran correctly. It did pop up the question as to whether I wanted it to make changes to my machine, to which I said yes.

Does it not run at all?
Could you try running it as an administrator perhaps?

I tried it on another w7 computer and it did fire off alarms from windows and Avast about suspicious and was blocked from downloading.
I went around that and it did load and is running as v422 eepskye.
Again from er9x.com.
It no longer shows up in the start, eepe all programs drop down folder.
Making a separate shortcut does work.
I’ll use this computer to hopefully upgrade the skyboard tx’s ( B&C) and then sort out the original computer.
I did not have to run as administrator on this w7 computer?

Also in the eepe drop down start folder there is a eepskye sportset start and my Avast virus scanner is blocking it from running.
I’ll deal with that later.

Working skyboard C.
Low priority but some questions. It’s been along time since I’ve updated the fw.
With r211 I get the hello message at startup I’m used to. Loading the latest ersky9xs.bin into the sd card in the firmware folder, then the trims center and power on, I do see all the firmwares past and present.
Selecting the r221 ersky9xs_rom.bin and enter, it flashes fine. I lose the hello power on message? Going back to r211, the sound comes back.
Has the sounds folder or path changed and I missed the info?
I do still see all my loaded models.
I have a few more questions but one at a time.

r211 is quite old (Aug 2014), since then there has been a change to the voice files to use named files instead of numbered files.
Go here: http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7715, and download "Voice Pack for Ersky9x r218 and above_v1.0.zip". Unzip onto your SD card.

I’m 4 years older, ugh!
Ok, I’ll do that.

I’m upgrading my B and C boards with plans of using or loaning them.
Can’t if I’m not current.
Ok, here’s the next brain glitch.
No trouble uploading .bin files to the sd card and flashing via the 3 finger method.
But today I tried to simply download the model memory ver C board, into eepskye and can’t.
Is SAM-BA and the tcl libraries still needed?
I found the wiki showing this but the library link was a dead end.
Too many transmitters and too many birthdays. I don’t know how you keep it all straight?
I’ll do the reading and work it out, but could use a few hints and links.
It was so easy in 2011.

eepskye should read the models.. no samba needed.
Just put your radio in bootloader mode and connect it to the computer.. start eepskye and read the eeprom.
Normally with a skyboard you should be able to just connect the radio to the PC and turn it on. it should enter bootloader mode automatically and the 2 drives should appear on the computer's screen..
it should be much easier than before.. :)

Here’s my issue?
Same w7.

I just upgraded to eepskye r422.
I’ve tried with my 9xr pro, Sky B and C board tx’s to
read memory from tx, green drop down.
In file preferences I’ve selected the correct board.
Clicking read model memory download I get with each board
“Eepskye.exe has stoped working and I have to close the program?

With the skyboard I have tried the trims to center and power on to get into the bootloader mode. V1.3. The screen just displays connecting.
I do se the two drives show up (sd card) and can read and write to the sd card.

The pro fw r221 just displays busy bootloader v1.0, bit still crashes eepskye when I try and download model memory?
I haven’t downloaded model memory for a long time and didn’t try it before upgrading to eepskye r422.

I do always see both tx drives if that hfkps.

I may have an older eepskye.exe I can try because it has worked in the past.

Bootloader 1.0 is way too old. Please enter maintenance mode by powering the radio On while holding both horizontal trims apart, select update bootloader, and then navigate to the latest Ersky9x firmware file.. Select it and press menu long to update the bootloader.

I’m focusing on my 9xr pro and eepyskye since it’s been working. The go back to the sky board.
I had loaded r221 via a older eepyskye a month or more ago when working in the orange module flashing. I did not flash it from the sd card at the time.
I did just add r221 to the firmware folder and was able to flash the bootloader from v1.0 to v2.6 without issues. Thank you for the help there. Yes much easier!
Trying to do a simple save of my model memory (green drop down) it still crashes eepskye r422 on my w7 desktop?
I believe I have an older version eepskye on my laptop that I have used at the field without issues with a older revision pro fw and bootloader.
R211 and v1.0.
I’m gone all day but unless I have new posted things to try, I’ll do that tonight.
Sadly I hadn’t tried it before the new fw and eepskye updates.
Trying another computer will also help sort this out I hope.

All working OK for me (Win 10, eepskye r422, ersky9x bootloader 2.6 on a 9XR-PRO).
Please confirm on eepskye, in the Burn|Configure menu that the tick box beside "Use SAM-BA" is NOT ticked.

I did that a few times to be sure.
I’ll load eepskye in my w10 laptop and try that but you’ll be sleeping when I do.
These little hiccups are a pain because I haven’t done it in such a long time. It may be some conflict with other ohms loaded over the last months?
Loading and Flashing from the sd card does work as does the update bootloader.
This is something new and I’ll sort it out.
Knowing it’s at my end, I’m on it.
I do as I said have a old knock around w7 laptop that has worked in the past and hasn’t had eepskye updated. No idea of the version but at least a year old.
I’ll try it also. It always worked with my pro then I’ll try the skyboards.
I hadn’t tried updating the bootloader from the sd card in the past so that’s a step forward and it worked great first time!
More when I’m home tonight.

Interesting?
My way laptop has w10 on it now for several months. I have eepskye 421 on it and it does work as expected with my pro. No problem downloading the modes mix and saving it.
Same for the skyboard C.

Now I want to download and install the new eepskye 422 and w10 defender says it won’t because it’s
“Eepskye.exe is unsafe to download and was blocked by windows defender smart screen”
I got this on my w7 computer but it was Avast vs that blocked it.

I’m familiar enough with w10 to disable the blocking?
A search options hasn’t helped much.
Ugh, I seem to complicate things don’t I?
I’ll install 422 as soon as I can download it to see if eepskye 422 works on my laptop as 421 in now.
