Zippychip: your sound file is out dated. download the most current sound pack from 'sound pack library' for ersky9x. most numbers has changed to 0400 to 0xxx
also, update your Ersky9x to r167 (r161 is ancient ;) )and Tinnyapp to 0106 (there were issues with 0105 and ersky9x). most likely your eepskye is also outdated. get the latest version.

The wiring looks ok , have you tried the on-board SD-card socket , as SM suggested?

Well, Now I am in deep doodoo. I tried to use the onboard sd slot so I could check if the external was working properly and jumpered the wrong post. Evidently I chose the one that that erases everything from the board.
So, until I figure out how to get the FW back in, I am dead in the water. I did successfully connect to the board and even saved my model memory but I tried flashing from EEPsky to restore it but it reports an error and will not do it. I am also tired of searching for info on this thing. Hey, I have to admit that I am in over my head.
I am going back to the smartyparts setup so I can fly this weekend.

If I get re-inspired I may be back asking for help again, if not then its going on ebay. So, yeah, I am pretty darned discouraged right now.
However, thank you to all that have offered help. Much appreciated!

What error did epskye report?

We can take you through the steps to use SAM-BA directly to get you running again if eepskye isn't working.

Hello All,
I just tried to update my working Sky V3 with the new version of open9x and now have a blank screen and companion 9x does not see the system. I even had voice working with telemetry. It was great. key word was. Would someone point me in the right direction to restore this board?

Does it show up in device manager?
You may ha e to reset your board and try again.
Start here

I have a SKY9x 3.0 board, and had the sound functions working well. A few days ago, I upgraded to openTX-r2491 and the sound stopped working. When I tried to define a function to play a clip, I got a message saying there were no sounds on the SD. With a little research, I found that the sound files needed to be moved to /SOUNDS/en/, which I did. I can now see the names of the sound clips, but there is still no sound output when I assign a clip to a switch in play ---.

The speaker is definitely connected, and I do get a beep when I use the Play Sound function. I have the Voice Language set to English, and the Sound Off box is not checked in Radio Setup. When I look at /SOUNDS/en/ in the SD Card menu setup screen, I can see the sound clips. If I press Menu I get an option to play a selected clip, but when I press the menu button with a clip selected there is no sound.

Any ideas?

Try adding the sounds into a folder just named sounds in the sd card root directory. I think the /en is the trouble.
I haven't tried opentx on my ver3 but I think sounds is the correct folder format.
Please report your success.

SM,
Thank you for your suggestion. However, when my problem started, I did have the files in /SOUNDS/ on the SD card and this didn't work. It seems that the new version of the firmware is providing multiple language support, so the clips have to stored is language-specific directories.

Hopefully the opentx persons will educate us both?
I tried searching for this info but so far nothing specific about file folders on the sd card. I better learn this since I should have a new Taranis before July.
Anyone know where a current manual can be downloaded?
Also a current opentx manual?

Hello Showmaster,
I have tried the bricked system restore with no success. I am ok up to the line "Power with USB" At this point I should have the main battery disconnected Correct?
The next line says program board with Samba. Should I go er9x or can open9X be installed here?
Next the line says" Boot from Flash click execute"
After all of this I now hook up the main battery and all should be well?

I reread the bricked system recovery information and am still in the dark. If I power the system with just the USB cable Samba does not see the system. Samba only offers a connection on COM 3. If I power with the battery Samba sees the system on Com4. I am able to load ER9X and the copressor within Samba. I also click execute. All looks normal, no error messages. Shut the system off disconnect USB. Turn system on blank screen.

Power should be on to upgrade the firmware.
The USB connection doesn't power the radio any more on the ver 3 board design.
First short the 2 reset pins and power on. I find that a servo connector will fit these pins if you don't have a computer suitcase jumper. I use a servo pigtail cable and just short 2 wires. This will reset the arm processor. Power off and remove the jumper.
Then connect the USB cable and power on. Windows should show the port your board is connected to in device manager.

I just reset my ver B sky board to verify my facts. I actually had trouble using c9x to reflash the FW after a master board reset but eepesky did it first try!
I must be missing something using C9x and hopefully someone, MileB or Brent will tell me where I went wrong with c9x.
I'll try it a few more times and also try samba by itself.
I just got C9X to work but try both programs if one doesn't.
Give eepeskye a try.

C9x should flash it using samba if your port and samba path is correct in c9x config.
Flash using the sky FW file you want to upload. I just used r171 ersky9x.

Is there a current list of all of the sound names the OpenTx firmware will call from the system folder? I believe there are more sound names that it can use than are included in the EN sound package.

If you download the sound pack from companion, that includes all the files/names it uses. :)

You can add additional ones if required.

Thanks ShowMaster,
My wonderful Sky9x is alive again!! You clarification on the power issue for the Ver 3 board cured the problem. I was following the instructions to the letter and it was not working. I first loaded er9x with Samba, It went well. I then used C9X and installed OpenTX with No issues. Is there a way to correct the docs to show this change for the V 3 board?
Thanks again,
Dave

Glad it worked for you. Great place to share good info. We all learn from it.
I have a ver B board that a beta of the ver2. It did program with the power off but I've just modified it to act like the ver C beta 3 board I own. Now like you, both of my boards require power to program. I wanted to KIIS! Less to remember.
I'm not sure if I have permission to add a ver 3 power required statement to the wiki reset recovery section but I'll look into it.

I'm happy to report that zippychip1950 will soon be flying his skyboard V3 9x and it'll have the newest tiny app and fw installed. His main board sd slot and his extension sd slot works now. The main issue was that the bottom screw left of the USB connector had been tightened a little too much and its head tore the pc trace under it. The solder mask was hiding it. First I've heard of this but we all should be careful when we tighten the screws, just snug them. The SD card pin 0ne was not connected to the arm pin 39. Great workout for my new Stereo Magnifier. I now understand his frustration. It was simple but puzzling to me for a while.
I’ll post some before and after pictures FYI.

Just snug board screws all of us.
I scraped the solder mask off after a continuity test showed that pin 1 on the sd card holder/header wasn't connected to pin39 on the arm chip.
I also think those two traces were intermittently shorting together to because of the screw head sitting on them.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1372059624.997593.jpg
Fix. Wire wrap wire soldered across the traces and break. Later a small fiber washer with a dab if hot glue was placed on the hole and the screw was tightened enough to bond the washer to the board. The glue filled in the gaps between the trace repair to hold it securely in place. Now the screw can be tightened more and it won't short the traces.

It was exciting to turn his tx on and have it say welcome!
While I have it I'm installing all the telemetry connection mods and a haptic motor. I plan to burn it in and then test fly it before returning it.

BTW, the 6pm news said that wine drinkers are climbing in numbers and not beer drinking.
You'd better stock up, but maybe not in Germany .... Yet!

I have 3 Sky9x boards I'm wanting to sell. Two are in transmitters and one is still in the box. If anybody is interested they should PM me. I'd really rather keep transactions to CONUS as I'm a noob to shipping stuff. I'm really very good at ordering however.
