9xtreme telemetry XSR + Omnibus F4 PRO v3 Bad Data?

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

9xtreme telemetry XSR + Omnibus F4 PRO v3 Bad Data?

Post by dubadub425 »

Hey guys, trying to get my telemetry to work on a new racing quad with the Omnibus F4 Pro V3. My radio is the 9X with the 9xtreme board and an XJT. I've soldered the telemetry wires to pin 5 so I get full telemetry, and I have another XSR hooked up to a Betaflight F3 and get full telemetry from that, so I know the SmartPort works on my end.
Following this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sqivY8deT0
I've run a wire with the non-inverted signal from UART 6 Tx and soldered it to the back of the XSR, just like he shows, but it shows up as bad data in my Tx. Any Ideas? Is there another way to invert that signal? is that not even the problem?
Thanks for reading!

So, after all you have a XJT or a DJT installed?? :o :)

You don't need to connect pin 2 on any of them by the way.. Only pin 5.

Ok, do you get RSSI values when you turn ON the radio with XJT and the receiver? Just trying to understand if you are getting telemetry at all from the receiver.

yes, I get RSSI, and I get numbers when I enable SmartPort, but they're wrong, the Vfas is wrong and the Voice says No Telemetry.

The RSSI is wrong? Hmm, strange.. I don't remember seeing the RSSI showing up with wrong values.. :o

What happens if you go to the telemetry menu and turn ON the "Invert COM1" option?
Also, what do you have selected in the field "Proto" in the telemetry menu?

What kind of "wrong"? Usually that's due to missing actual voltage measurement hardware ont he aircraft or improper FC configuration.

Sorry, the RSSI value is correct. When SmartPort is disabled, I get RSSI and everything else (Alt, Ctot, vBAT) are all Zero. When I turn on SmartPort, RSSI is still good but Alt is 3,000m and vBAT shows 12.4v no matter what the actual voltage is. I'm heading to work, I'll check the Tx setup tonight.
Thanks for the interest guys!

Ok, I played around with it a bit last night. All the different PROTO settings, INVERT COM on and off for each, tried each of the Baud rates in the Configurator. When powering up, I would sometimes get correct vBAT and Alt, but a few seconds later Alt would go to 3,000m and the Voice says No Telemetry even though the RSSI works. So I think the telemetry data is getting fouled in the TX, but I got no real ideas.

Go here for instructions on how to enable "raw logging", get a log file and post it on here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=40&p=123508&hilit=r ... ng#p123508.
The DEBUG menu is UP LONG, then RIGHT a few times.
Note that the "raw logging" option is not kept through a power off-on cycle.

If I select FrSky instead of SmartPort in the Ports tab, can I use that, or do I have to use SmartPort?

You have to use smart port if you use an X receiver, and FrSky if you use a D receiver.

Don't post files, post links to where to get the current files. Posted files get oudated, people find them a year later when they're not current anymore and confuse the person who then gets into a mess following wrong instructions instead of getting help.

Yes, see here where the 9xtreme SD card is: (viewtopic.php?f=95&t=7182).
But with erSky9x you will use eepSkye on your PC and you should see two drives when connecting USB to your PC holding the trim switches together
when powering your 9xtreme up (viewtopic.php?f=92&t=10398&hilit=erSky9 ... 30#p130669).
Can not power off 9xteme before saving log file because it will be deleted when powering down.

I see what you are saying dubadub425, I can not get the two SD card drives to show without powering down
in-order to power back up hold the trim switches (toward) each other.
So people must be taking the SD out before powering down to get the log files saved ?

I've had a quick look and the raw telemetry data looks OK, it should get decoded correctly.
The telemetry item "BATT" is the transmitter battery, is this the value that shows 12.4v?

What revision of ersky9x do you have on the radio?

Version V. 1764-Mike

Ersky9x-r220

When I first turn on the quad, RSSI shows up and I get Vfas that's accurate for about 5 seconds. After that I get the No Telemetry voice when I try to check voltage. RSSI and Batt remain and are both correct.

Maybe I need to upgrade firmware.

The raw data log shows FasV data being received with a value of either 12.0v or 12.1v.

Please try the following:
1. Use eepskye and back up both the flash and EEPROM of your radio. If necessary, you can revert to these.
2. Go to viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4676, and download "ersky9xProvR221e2.zip". Extract ersky9x_rom.bin from the .zip file, then flash this to your radio.
3. Power the Tx on, go to the MODEL SETUP index menu, select TELEMETRY, then select LOGGING from the popup list. Step down until the tick box beside FasV is highlighted. You should see 0.0v flashing on the top line of the display.
Now power up the FC, and see what happens on that screen. When FasV data is received, the value should display on the top line, without flashing, and a tick mark should appear at the right of the display on the FasV line (not the tick in the highlighted box).
The tick mark will stay present as long as FasV data is being received.

I would like to know:
a) Does the tick mark appear?
b) Does the value on the top line show a correct value?
c) Does the tick mark disappear (if it appeared!)?
d) Does the tick mark re-appear at some time later?

The tick marks show up one by one, the voltage shows 8.7 - 11.5v (battery is 11.3v) and about 5 seconds later all the tick marks go out at once. I did this with a quad built arount a betaflight f3 and XSR and all the ticks stay on, so I know the radio's working fine. Something about the f4 ?
