I mentioned the SmartiepaRts board and the TelemetrEZ board because you mentioned the FLD-02 screen. Normally people that can't or don't want to solder get that display or the DHT-U.
The problem is that with those you won't have per model settings telemetry while if you do the telemetry mod with or without the T-EZ board you will have on screen telemetry on the 9x, and will be able to set alarms on a per model basis. T-EZ still not available for the 9XR but I think Steven is working on it.. Also the voice module will only work with telemetry if you do the internal mod. Not with the displays..
I was going to put the FrSky combo in the 9xr as I read somewhere someone had put this voice board in a 9xr but I think I will follow your advice and stick it in the 9x. Will the turnigy module from the 9x run in the 9xr? If so I'll swap it over and wait for the new 9xr one to arrive.
In many people's opinion the 9x is a better radio but I'm not commenting on that. In my opinion the lack of space for mods inside is very limiting
As far as I know the turnigy module will fit but I've read that some people had problems with it.. something with having to bend the pins??
You seem to be hot on the voice mod, what setup are you using and what do you use it for most? Apart from bragging rights at your club which is a given
Yes, this mod is quite special for me.. It was a big fight trying to convince the developers and half of RC Groups (at the time) and also this forum that it was a great idea..
Thanks to Mike's flash savings, his knowledge, and all the time he spent working on it, we are now able to enjoy the voice capability.
Also thanks to Oliver for starting the new voice module's project when the emartee new modules suddenly didn't work as expected. He is the real father of the MegaSound9x module..
At the moment I have two 9x radios modded with Atmega128, rotary encoder, MegaSound9x boards, HaGeHa's version, the self made one not the commercial (thank you Hans for etching a couple PCBs for me. Yoy get to know very good people in this forum), and I use it for all the telemetry alarms and also telemetry reports, like voltage, altitude, temperature, etc.... You just flick a switch and it repeats the data every "n" seconds.
Of course you can also use it for all the ridiculous (I've been told at my club) stuff like telling you that your flaps or landing gear is down, or that your throttle cut is active..
All this might not be necessary but I like it and I have fun with it..
And it's cool
There are other possibilities like for example, having the airplane doing something using the telemetry.
For example some users from this forums are limited to an altitude of 400ft due to their field's proximity to an international airport..
You can have an altimeter triggering a voice alarm letting you know that your model is too high, or even turning the motor off if you try to fly above that limit..
All together this is just a wonderful system..
Sorry for the long post. I hope you can find some useful information in it.. that's rare on my posts
