Also using liberally, a good rosin soldering flux, like RadioShack: (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Radioshack- ... SwwE5WVOdc).

Thanks guys. I'll try the tape method. see how that works. I'll also try tinning pad and wire method (that's what I figured I might try) I'm not sure if I'm at the point of holding the wire and solder between fingers in 1 hand yet lol.

Joao, I got some desolder wick. I was messing with that too. doesn't seem too hard. I ordered one of those little desolder pumps too.

this 17 dollar solder iron doesn't seem too bad. it seems to work, and is a you get what you pay for. I needed it to solder, and it soldered... the tip sucks. it's like a needle tip. very hard to heat up the pads. I have some other tips I have coming in that should make it little easier.

only thing left is the ar9x board now. the eachine 250 should be here tomorrow I think, but no tx to fly it yet.

I thought this isn't necessary because all these solders have a rosin core in it already?

For this kind of soldering (small stuff) better is thin solder wire. I use 0.5mm
Also needle type soldering iron tip need more temperature as the area is smaller.
larger tips need less temperature.
So, if the iron is not melting the solder on the pads you need to set the temperature higher.
Timing is also critical. Don't leave the iron too long (more than a few seconds) on pads and components. Better a hotter iron that melts the solder immediately and you spend 2 seconds to do the job, than a colder iron that needs ages to heat up the solder.. this can destroy components or boards. The fastest you are soldering, the better, even at higher temperature if necessary. At the end of the day the parts will end up cooler quicker.

I hope it helps..

got it thanks. I'll crank up the heat. the cheap solder iron requires bit of extra heat to work. 350 is really min. I was doing the less heat, but more time thing. Guess I had it backwards lol.

I have .5mm solder as well (60/40)

I have a very thin tip, 0.5mm, so I set the temperature at 400 degrees,or a little more.. The secret is to do the job quickly, not giving enough time for things to get hot.

you need something like this. Can't do everything with one tip. temperature AND tips
http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Pcs-Solder-I ... SwwTlUoWLm

if you wan to solder lipo connector with that pointed tip, you may have to wait till next life.

mostly used tip for me is the 1mm and 1.5 mm chesel tip (like flat screw driver). that pointed tip is good for MCU legs.

The board just arrived today.

That's good news...

the bad news is I don't have any screws to install it. The screws I have are too long (it was to hold down the raised smartie parts board) Not sure where I can go to get such small screws. Thinking I use a dremel and cut the ones I have down (which won't be easy)

this problem has definetly pain in my butt.

not to mention the backlight panel's wire sticks out into the 4 way D pad making it a very tight fit there.

any suggestions?

Alright. it's up and running :)

However I'm not really sure on the polarity of my led backlight (both cables are black) any help for me to figure out how to determine which cable is pos?

Did you lose the original screws that held the original board in place?

You need to have a telemetry capable module/rx to work on telemetry like a Frsky DJT to plug in the back and Frsky D series receiver. If you don't have one yet I would say get an XJT. go to http://www.alofthobbies.com to check it out. Since your main purpose is to fly Eacheon quad, you can just get this: https://alofthobbies.com/frsky-x4r-sb-3 ... -cppm.html
this is the XJT: https://alofthobbies.com/frsky-xjt-jr-g ... odule.html

my djt already had the wiring done inside.

Not sure where I'm supposed to see RSSI and stuff on the screen.

I'm going to start a post on the opentx forums. hardware wise I"m up and running. I appreciate everyone's help here!
