Also when trying the voice module, do you keep the FTDI adapter always connected to power the arduino?
That might not work.. I remember having problems with it.
Disconnect the FTDI from the arduino and see if voice works.. Or if you can play that 0040.wav file with the test firmware Mike sent you. Remove the FTDI..

well joao,
i loaded a read write sketch to the standalone arduino that had been showing card info successful earlier,
and after the upload its supposed to show the files with test results,
on opening serial it comes back as card failed to initialise,
will try and find different card for next test,

update reread sketch and it says cs pin is 4 so connected cs pin to pin 4 and it came back as test successful,
ive checked voltage on the 4 pins and they are cs 5.1v dropping to 0v then back to 5.1v when code changes, mosi 5.1v never changes, miso 0v never changes, sck 0v never changes,

ha ha so am i joao,
ive tested the sd card with read and write it came back as ok,ive tested it with sd card info everything came back ok,i actually bought a new multimeter to test all the components on both boards(actually had to send it back because it wouldnt stay switched on) so got another better one next day, all came back as ok,i removed amp chip and built a little circuit on a breadboard and it worked great, mike has wrote numerous codes for trouble shooting,
ive built 3 amp boards 3 arduino boards and cant get any to work, first time i put it in radio throttle trims didnt work and no sound,so looked to this forum for help,
cant thank mike b and yourself enough for the help and time youve afforded me in trying to sort this, but i think its going to go down as an enigma,
cheers guys
ps ive looked into building the smd megaboard as ive got a computer mobo that i think will have a big percentage of the parts but this has knocked my confidence a bit :?:

mackem54,
Maybe you can look at the upgrade Ar9x board (http://www.ar9x.net/) which has sound built into it ?
Would save you from having all the troubles.

Where I'm confused is an earlier test appeared to show the SD card initialising OK, while now it isn't initialising, what changed?

Perhaps you could post a couple of pictures showing your wiring to the SD card holder from the Arduino.

wish i had seen this about 2 weeks ago bob been looking at the forum about this,
couple of questions if you dont mind,
firstly my frsky 9x has the telemetry mod done to a djt external module but i didnt use a serial ttl adaptor(i think thats what its called), mine has the resistors in the module and on the rf plate in the radio, with the 2 processor pins connected, would i still be able to connect it to new board without having a wire from the tx pin at the back of the module,
and does it have the sound module integrated in the board,
cheers eddie

Hi mackem54,
I have never done the DJT mods, I run the telemetry wires through the back case and connect them to the the modules.
I have yet to (hope to some day) do the upgrade Ar9x board to a 9x radio (http://www.ar9x.net/).
João and or Mike B. can better say what you would need to do.

The Ar9x replaces the 9x stock board entirely. You remove the stock and install the Ar9x board.. Yes, it already has voice capability. With Ersky9x you can even play music if you wish :)

If you modified the DJT internally it might, or might not work as the Ar9x expects an inverted RS232 serial signal for the telemetry.
But actually, I think there is a jumper you can set to invert COM1 or not..
Not sure the telemetry port (COM1) also accepts TTL level. I believe so because I connect an MultiProtocol module to COM1 and it works..

The Ar9x board is an excellent upgrade..

This one waits longer to see if the card responds to the initialise operation.
Please also check the continuity of the wires between the Arduino and the SD card board. Sometimes, the crimp contacts are only held by the insulation, and make an intermittant contact. It is best to check between the headers on each board.

Hi mackem54,
What Mike says about there maybe a bad connection is a real possibility.
To add, I have had a wire to be bad as there was a place in the wire that was only the plastic insulation (no wire at all).
Also I have had a defective wire, where as when bent a particular way, had a break in the wire having no connection.

hi guys ive been looking for a schematic for the sd card module im using,
and ive come across this article about there being problems with this module and spi devices with the fix,
dont know if its relevant, but in the meantime im going to solder all my connections from the arduino to the sd card,
(clutching at straws lol)

That fix would be if you are using more than one device connected to the SPI bus. The description indicates the MOSI signal would be permanently active, thus preventing other devices from operating.

Don't forget to try the "test11" I posted above.

Post by mackem54 »

seriously thinking about the ar9x board only thing im not sure of is using my djt module,
ive read 45 pages so far on the ar9x forum but theres not a lot of info on the djt and ar9x(unless i havent reached them yet),as i said earlier the way my djt module is modded it has a couple of resistors in the rx and tx lines going to pin 2 and 5 i think (hard to remember) and the pins on the radio back pcb are seperated from all other connections, now the thread on the ar9x shows a mod where 1 wire is soldered in the djt module,
does this mean if i reconnect all traces ive cut on the radio back pcb and undo my mods in the module then do the ar9x mod this will work,
im very confused,

Point us to the exact mod you did. Better to start another thread as this one is for the voice on the stock 9x radio :)

OK, I can't see why the SD card isn't responding. Please do the following:
Try the firmware you used previously to get the list of files on the SD card and see if that still works.
If it does, can you point me to this firmware (source code) so I can see what, if anything, it is doing differently.

hi mike,
ive never got the sd card to list the files on this arduino module(or the other 2 ive built) using an ftdi even after soldering the six pin header and connecting ftdi directly with nothing else connected,
ive tried flashing card info sketch on to it but its never once flashed correctly, ive always used another arduino flashed with the sdinfo sketch from the arduino basic codes to get the info and check its working,

Does your arduino run at 16Mhz, or do you have the 8mhz version?

I don't know what to say.. all my boards that I made work..
I am starting suspecting the SD Card adapter itself..

But you will have a better radio with the Ar9x.. It is worth it the upgrade..
