Turnigy 9X backlight timeout not working

Post by zniter81 »

Hi Guys,

I recently bought Turnigy 9x V2 and backlight kit from hobbyking, and also purchased a smartieparts programmer board(v2.4).

I flashed er9x, after i set the backlight timeout to 10sec and ER9X managed to switch off the backlight after 10sec.

But today, it is not working. :( :(

i tired to re-flash ER9x, but no luck :(

Any advice?

Try setting the timeout to 0 and assigning a switch. Then test to see if the backlight will turn on and off.

Hi Mike,

set to 0. but still the same. the backlight is still always on.

Last night when i toggle the "Backlight Invert", i am able to see the backlight switch off and on.
but now no matter what i do the backlight never goes off.

What have you got the "sound mode" set to on the RADIO SETUP menu?
If you fit a MegaSound board to get voice, it uses the backlight control pin for voice control. You then set the "sound mode" to either beeperVoice or pispkrVoice. The backlight is then controlled from the MegaSound board.
So if you have accidently set the "sound mode" to include voice, the backlight stops working.

Please give more info.
To have BL led control you must do the control mod.
Did you do the FET or transistor control mod? Is it connected to pin 17 of the CPU? Does it go out if pin 17 is disconnected?

I had the same problem with the 9X, SmartieParts Board and the Hobby King backlight.

Did you fix it? What SP board model? Newer led version or older EL version that you would use the VDD connection to drive the added DIY FET switch?
I'm just trying to sort out the short answers to see what's been done. I've done BL sw conversions, some with SP boards of different models that all worked.

The VDD pin on the sp board or pin 17 on the CPU should toggle from 0 to 3.3v when the BL function is working. I don't have the newer so board to test with but that's how simple it it is. 3.3v on CPU pin 17(VDD SP board) BL is on. 0 volts BL
Is off. Of you have 3.3v full time on pin 17 or VDD then it's a setting in the FW menu most likely.
The first page of the radio setup menu has those settings and switch options for the BL.
Not much more I can offer as this has solved all if any BL issues I've had.
