ER9x and Windows 8 / 8.1

Post by old4570 »

looks like Win8 is going to be a PITA for programming a 9XR ...
At issue is the USBasp driver ...

http://www.fischl.de/usbasp/usbasp.2011-05-28.tar.gz U want's this one , but my Win 8.1 refuses to install it ..
Without this driver U are wasting your time ...
I could not find a Linux flavor that would install / run eePe ..

So only one recourse was left open to me ! Windows XP

I run VirtualBox , so installed XP onto that ..
Issues with XP , first the browser is no longer supported ( too old ) and it won't do jack on the internet .
The only browser still supporting ( major browser ) XP is Opera .. So download Opera and be happy .

With Opera running download eePe ..
Also download the USBasp driver .. http://www.fischl.de/usbasp/usbasp.2011-05-28.tar.gz

You definitely want the expansion (?) pack for VB , as it will give you USB support .

Plug in the programmer ( connected to Ur Tx ) and it will find USBasp device ...
Now install the driver manually ..

Once this is done you can program your 9XR ...
Yeah its a PITA , but I just could not find a way around windows 8.1 ... ( XP to the rescue )

There are USBASP driver packs that work on win8/10, and you can also install a working driver for it using Zadig. The first Google result for "USBASP Windows 10" leads you to full instructions in 2 clicks.

I will have also to try eepe and eepskye on the VB I have installed in my Ubuntu studio machine. It is running XP.
I have just upgraded Ubuntu to a newer version and it broke eepe and eepskye. With the windows I know it will always work. I hate to say this actually :( :D
