Lucky you.. normally I have to drive 30 plus kilometers to the "Zoll"(customs).. and then pay the tax..
But it is a joke that the stuff stays so long in Frankfurt.. :(

Hi João,
jhsa wrote:... normally I have to drive 30 plus kilometers to the "Zoll"(customs).. and then pay the tax...
usually it's the same here, especially when there is no bill/invoice with the parcel.

But when I get the letter which wants me to do so,
I send them a letter with the bill/invoice and add the sentence
"Ich bitte um Abwicklung durch die Deutsche Post"
(which means roughly "I ask for completion by the Deutsche Post") to the letter.

But then don't you have to pay more handling fees?
That's why I don't order with DHL anymore. Their customs handling fees are an absolute joke.

No, you don't pay any additional handling fees. At least I never had to pay extra handling.
If I get the letter from customs, I call them and ask what data they need. And that's normally the invoice or a Paypal document about what you paid. And they want it as a PDF file.
And I tell them they should deliver it to me. What they do without additional cost.
The only problem that you may have, if you are waiting for several deliveries, you don't know what is in the package. This way I already sent them the incorrect information, but they didn't notice it. Nevertheles, both articles were below the magic 22€ limit.

That's at least with my customs office

@João:

You have to distinguish between two separate things:
  • the delivery from abroad (where DHL isn't really the cheapest ...) to our customs
  • the handling here in Germany (where the delivery from customs to receiver normally is handled by Deutsche Post)

In this case DHL took care of the customs themselves. And overcharged me accordingly.. :(
