Today I installed OpenTx 2.0.7 on one of my 9X radios. That was a fun experience, just as well that I had my models backed up as they were all deleted as were the settings in all the profiles.
Two questions. Is there any way to have more than 4 flight modes? it would help with compatibility with APM, Pixhawk and probably other flight controllers.
When I copy the firmware back to the radio I get a dialogue box, the third option asks me if I want to check firmware compatibility. If I select this, OpenTx crashes. I'm not sure what the function does so I wrote the firmware to the radio without selecting it and that worked. Is this an issue with my setup or more general?
2.0.7 on a 9X radio
Re: 2.0.7 on a 9X radio
Models are lost if you previous firmware is not OpenTX but something else. Otherwise models should be converted to 2.0 format.
The 9X only supports four flight modes and this is limited by the available resources. But OpenTX flight modes don't have anything to do with flight controller's flight modes. They just happen to have the same name. So your are good there.
The check compatibility is known bug https://github.com/opentx/opentx/issues/1376

Re: 2.0.7 on a 9X radio
The previous firmware was OpenTX, have been using it since it came out. When I updated to 2.0.7 from 2940 all my models were lost, no conversions.
The OpenTx flight modes do have a little to do with the FC modes. Why would anyone set up a radio with a set of FMs totally different to those used in the FC for the same model? It makes perfect sense to me to want to have the same names in each place, especially if you want the FM selected to display on the Tx screen so you know what you have done. More important when there's no voice prompts. I'd be happy to forgo some other feature that is not used in craft with FCs (plenty of options there) and have the capacity to construct completely compatible FMs in each of the two places. Just another parameter choice in the build options (doesn't that make it sound simple?) Whether anyone can be bothered changing firmware for an obsolete radio when all resources seem to be devoted to Taranis is another matter.

Re: 2.0.7 on a 9X radio
I guess 9X doesn't have a model conversion routines because of limited FLASH space. But you sill can convert your models in the new Companion, just load you backup into it.

Re: 2.0.7 on a 9X radio
I still use my 9x even though I have a Taranis. Obsolete may be too strong a word. There will always be something newer and "better".
Re: 2.0.7 on a 9X radio
exactly.. that is exactly what I meant..
