open9X on the DEVO8
Right chaps...
It has come to our attention that a project has been underway
http://www.deviationtx.com
That has been inspired by er9x/open9x.
This essentially puts a custom firmware on to one of these radios.
http://www.hobbyhot.com/Walkera-Deventi ... r-Set.html
Bertrand has had a look at the source code for the project - and by the look of it, open9x could be ported to the platform. Yes.. it will take work. But it can be done.
Now.. it seems this little radios can be purchased for a not too dear $198.90 (probably cheaper if we shop around)
What I would like to know is.. does anyone want an open9x port? (it will form a good foundation for the FrSky X12D).
Understandably we cannot expect Bertrand to buy a radio just to do this. He is not made of money
So considering this is a $200 radio. If enough people want the port done - Say 10 people -> who can each put it $20. Then we can get a radio for Bertrand to work on.
Any interest?

Re: open9X on the DEVO8
I am wondering if the Devo 10 would be a better target to start with?
http://www.hobbyhot.com/Walkera-Deventi ... TS865.html
What I understand that the hardware is the same as Devo 8 except the LCD. Since the LCD on the Devo 10 is closer to the 9x maybe it would be a easier port to start with. Also the Devo 10 has 2 pots where the devo 8 has none and the Devo 10 is cheaper.

Re: open9X on the DEVO8
I think that I would use some of the GUI routines from the deviationtx project, so both (and more) should be supported.

Re: open9X on the DEVO8
Walkera is ok to send a Tx only AFTER the port is made (huh!!!). So I will rather focus on the next FrSky X9D. Sorry for the 2 people interested!

You can count me in for donation. Easy part to play to support the cause. Thanks.
Re: open9X on the DEVO8
Hello, this is my first post, I hope to be on topic here.
Not many days ago I was shopping to convert my FC-18
to FrSky modules and considering how hard would
be to use Open9X into my old TX.
It happens that I have some stm32 devoboards
and I have done some work on these micros.
So I was considering to try to port open9x to stm32,
it's a huge work and probably (ok: definitely) beyond
my skills.
The reason is mainly that I have all the necessary,
no need to buy anything, but can be interesting also
because there are many cheap devboards around,
(for example ebay # 330658037012) and STLink
is cheap anough and included in some ST's discovery
devboards. So with less than 30euro (incl. display)
and some soldering work one can have the basic hardware.
Ok, enough blah blah, reading this post if I understand
correctly Devo 8 is stm32 based, so I wanted just tell
that if there will be some STM32 port for Open9X
I will be Very happy and I can and will do betatesting
with available hardware I have, if it will be useful.
Thank you for your Great Work !!
Fabio.

Re: open9X on the DEVO8
The problem is ... I cannot afford paying all the radios where I would like to port open9x, so I am waiting for enough donations promised before buying the DEVO (around 140$)!

Well, count me for a 10€ contribution.
