New radio for OpenTX

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

New radio for OpenTX

Post by HobbyPorter »

Hello, my name is Ben, I am reaching out on behalf of HobbyPorter in partnership with Jumper Technology. We have been working on a new Radio that we now have working with OpenTX. I was hoping to get in touch with some of the OpenTX devs to talk about the next steps.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Ben.

Hi All, Im now in contact with Bertrand via email. For the record we had reached out to OpenTX back in April via their facebook page and OpenTX where aware that we had intention to develop an OpenTX radio. At this time the Team advised us they where fairly busy and unable to commit time to our project which was totally understandable so we set about trying to make something work on our own. We reached our goal sooner than expected and where at a point where we were happy with our design and ready to reach out to OpenTX again to get the ball rolling.

I am addressing this point here as there are some comments on RCG suggesting we didn't involve OpenTX early enough, which is not true, as I mentioned we had advise OpenTX of our intent back in April. Unfortunately project information was leaked by another website (Project T8OT) and became a discussion topic on RCG which attracted some negative comments.

The main reason I asked for contact via this forum is that I had hoped to establish a better line of communication than Facebook messenger.

We are really excited to bring this project to a conclusion and get feedback from the OpenTX team before launch.

Best regards,

Ben.

If this is a new radio for open source firmware, perhaps you would consider providing information to allow ersky9x to run on it, or porting ersky9x to it yourselves.

If anyone is wondering, what radio it is, it's probably a new Jumper T8OT transmitter.
Previous versions (T8SG) uses DeviationTX firmware and has a STM32F103RCT6 processor.

Hi Ben,
Hobby Porter has there Jumper T8SG v2.0 Plus with Hall Gimbal, 2.7" OLED Display, Multi-protocol Transmitter.
Jumper T8SG v2.0 Plus
Jumper T8SG v2.0 Plus
(http://hobbyporter.com/jumper-t8sg-v20- ... p0777.html)
With the T8SG v2.0 Plus, I do not like the AA batteries.
If it work well, I like the Multi-protocol Transmitter and Hall Gimbals.

Look forward to see what the new T8OT radio will have.
ErSky9x firmware would be a good move for your new T8OT radio.
Dose it have the OLED Display at the top of the radio ?
Er9x on 9x radio, with Smartieparts Programmer and TelemetrEZ Board.
ErSky9x on Taranis, Sky9x, 9Xtreme radios.

Hi Kumi, this image was unofficially leaked, we are trying not to perpetuate the miss-information around the leak. The New radio is part of the T series from Jumper and will use a similar (with some changes) case to the T8SG v2. T8OT was an internal project code name and is not the name of the item to be released. The internal electronics are also a re-design from the T8SG v2 series built work to with OpenTX

Hi Bob195558, thanks for the feedback. The AA battery tray is supplied as an option part. You can still use a 2cell Lipo/life if you prefer.

Thanks,

Ben.

The leaked photo (or 3D render) certainly does look much like the T8SG v2 so I can assume it will be something similar :)
Also for the main processor I expect STM32 too, like in all new OpenTX radios.

Anyway, I'll wait for more infomations.

Hi Kumi, yes the front half of the molding is the same, the rear has been updated for better grip. The MCU is an STM32.

Thanks,

Ben.

Is this new radio to compete with the FrSky Taranis Plus $167.00: (https://alofthobbies.com/frsky-taranis-plus.html) ?

Also a good must is to upgrade the FrSky Taranis Plus to M9 Gimbals (https://alofthobbies.com/m9-gimbal.html).
About $42 more.

I think it will be more like the Taranis QX7S, but smaller.
Small transmitter - the case is almost the same like in Jumper T8SG v2 Plus (back is different and should have JR module bay) and similar components inside.
At least this is what we may know for today :)
