Turnigy 9XR + OpenTX - How to delete models and mixes without the button to delete them

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

Turnigy 9XR + OpenTX - How to delete models and mixes without the button to delete them

Post by andyg »

Hi, This is probably a noob question, but I just flashed the latest Open TX for a Turnigy 9XR. The new firmware works fine, but now that I'm putting models and mixes back into the transmitter I can't seem to figure out how to delete mixes. I can add and copy mix settings, but I can't seem to delete them, it's almost as if I'm missing a button that should be there to delete or something.

Also, same with the models, I can copy models or create new models, but I can't delete models I don't want.

Is there some basic interface methodology that I'm missing here?

Reminder: Turnigy 9XR has 4way direction buttons, a menu button and an exit button. I've tried all sorts of combinations of long press, double short press, left right up down, pressing enter and menu together at the same time etc etc, nothing seems to allow me to delete mixes.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks so much.

Press menu to highlight, then exit long to delete.

If having to remember key presses is a problem for you, perhaps you could try Er9x. it opens a popup menu when you click on a model, mix, etc with all the actions you might need. delete, move, copy, edit, etc. just select the one you need. :)
Easy peasy :D

Hi. Okay, so I figured it out with your help. Yes you have to scroll to the mix you want to delete, press menu then hold exit for a second. You can also do the same my double pressing menu and holding exit.

To delete models first make sure the currently loaded model is not the one you're trying to delete (IE load up a different model by highlighting it and then long press menu). Then scroll to the model you want to delete, press menu, then hold exit, then press menu again when it asks for confirmation.

Now, ER9x, is it a good firmware to use? I thought openTX was the "bees knees" of firmware, or is ER9x better in some way, or is it just a more user friendly interface?

Lastly, I'm using Open TX Companion (v2.2.1 to match the firmware version I'm using) and trying to load the model settings from the transmitter, but whenever I do I get a message saying "Your eeprom is from an old version of OpenTX, upgrading!" What does this mean? It doesn't make sense since the memory was formatted when I installed opentx 2.2.1 so why is it complaining now? (Should I be raising this in another thread instead of here??)

Help please? Thanks so much.

OpenTX might be the "Bees Knees" in some aspects, but I find Er9x much more user friendly, and also supports some features and hardware that openTX doesn't on the 9XR and 9x radios. One of them is the MultiProtocol module. Er9x also supports some extra hardware like a couple extra switches for example.
Also, the OpenTX developers haven't been working on it for these platforms, and one of the devs was saying on another thread that support for the 9x and 9XR might even end in the future. Check the link below.
