Yes all controls up to 8 using ppm and the cable... I set it up allow the eFlite oops/recover button available on the student Tx as well.
Look at the chanel monitor screen/ outputs screen and watch the values for the 1st 8 chanels change as you change the values on the student Tx. I've not done it recently so my memory is a bit fuzzy...

You typically do NOT want the student to trim the model.

Radio Settings > Trainer
Two options
+= (SUM) This way you retain your trims (but when you move your sticks it adds to student stick position)
:= (Replace) This way the student Tx would need to have trims adjusted

If you want to use Replace then go to the
Main View > CHANNELS MONITOR (press page)
Observe the chanel output values when stick center
Pass controls to the student, trim student Tx till output valuse match what they were when the instructor's Tx has control.

I haven't done this is some time so please excuse me if not correct... Let me know and I'll try and do a full test on equipment...
