Why am I having trouble with Mixer and Mixer edit

Post by wineguy »

I'm trying to set up a simple three position flap switch using mixer. First position is set at -100% but as soon as I add the second position at -50% my first position changes. This seems like it should be very simple but I'm struggling.
I have been using Logical Switches because I may add a second switch for more flap positions. The logical switches are turning on and off as they should but everything falls to pieces in Mixer.
Mixer:
CH.6 -100L5
+= -75L6
+= 0 L7
My edits look like:
Source L5
Weight -100%

Source L6
Weight -75%

Source L7
Weight 0%

You're using "add" type mixes. You need "replace" mixes.

Ok cool. Got it. Now I have a .4 sec delay programmed in on each Logical Switch and now when I go from -100% to -75% it jumps to 0 for .4 seconds and then works it's way back up to -75%. Same when going from -75 to -25 or -25 to -75. Without the delay it moves straight to the next position.
Any ideas why it would be doing this?
Thank so much for the help.

Any particular reason why you are using logical switches to control the flaps in the mixer?

I'm using Logical switches because I'm using two 3-position switches.

Problem Solved! I found a video on Logical 6 position switch and realized in mix edit the "Source" needed to be set on "Max"
Now the slow up and slow dn work just like they are supposed to.
Now I need to find out what "Max" refers to and the other definitions for the source.

Why not use a slider, then you have fully variable flaps?

Max = weight100%

Because fixed position flaps are preferable in most situations. When you put down flaps for landing you want to know exactly what you will get. Moreover, we usually set up flaps with a "slow" function to give a gradual transition. This is not compatible with continuously variable flaps.

I recognize that this may not apply to glider use of flaps (and spoilers).

Exactly, on my 87" Beaver on floats I have always had my flaps set up on a three position switch. Position 1 flaps up, position 2 take off and approach, position 3 for landing. Now that I have the Taranis I was thinking I could add a couple more positions there.
Whether I need them or not is another story. I think it's more of a want than a need.

On one of my models when the 3-pos switch is "up", then I have a mix from a pot to control the flap, with the other two switch settings using "replace" mixes to give "take off" and "landing" specific settings.

That's a great idea. Best of both worlds.

Just an update on my configuration for using the two switches together. Using CH. 7 for flaps.
