Easy way to switch-off RF module at startup

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

Post by OpenMik »

Sometimes RF emission is not needed ie during model settings
Will be useful have a short way to switch-off the RF module at startup like the attached video

Depending on which radio you have..
With the taranis radio and newer frsky radios that should be very easy :)

For FRSKY (X7 X9 X10 X12) radio
In Settings Menu is possible to switch off the rf module but in this way I think is quicker

How many radios do you have ? :?: :) ;)

I think you mean FrSky: Qx7, X9D, X9D-Plus, X9E and X12S.

I believe with the open/source Er9x and ErSky9x radio firmware's you can just go to "Protocols"
and turn off your internal and external modules already. 8-)

I do not think it would be a good thing to be able to use one of the switches on your radio to turn off the modules,
as it would be dangerous  if when flying (if by accident :( ), this switch became activated braking control of your model in flight.

Added edit: If you are talking about wanting the modules turned off
when connected to a simulator program, then having the module turned off would be a good thing.
I have not been using simulator programs for some time now
and not sure how this can works or is working.

For simulator is possible to create a new model with rf module off
I think the switch-off RF module must be possible only at startup with a procedure like the posted video
IE switch-on radio with hold Plus and minus keys ad press enter for confirm RF-off
ABSOLUTELY NO with a special function by switch
I know that is possible to switch off the rf module in settings menu, but I think this way is more useful

Why do you actually need this? It's not like transmitting hurts, especially given the occasions where you'd be doing setup without the model are kinda rare...

Is not a relevant and foundamental option but... why not
is only a short way to switch off the rf module without make change in settings menu
Other system have this function
of course if I am the only user who requires this option it is useless to talk about it yet

@Kalle123
Radio in video is a FUTABA but is not mine, I swear!!

And what would be the problem if it was? Nothing wrong with it :)
It is actually a very good radio. I have also a T8FG, although I don't use it much. :) it is sitting on the my computer table..
I prefer my Ersky9x radios of course. :)

A setting like the one requested could be useful for someone testing the radio software all the time looking for problems like I do. Normally I create a model for testing as I don't want to mess with my models. If the testing I'm doing doesn't involve the RF module, then I turn the RF module OFF in the protocol menu.

But normally if I'm setting a model up, and even if I do it in eepskye on the computer, I have the model ON and connected to it. So I normally need the RF turned ON.
When you program your models you normally need to see what is happening on the model, right? :)
I also have other situations where I turn the RF OFF. When listening to music on the radio's music player for example, but then I create a different model with the RF turned OFF..

How about just plug a 3.5mm jack plug into the trainer socket. This may well operate the radio with the RF off anyway.
