LiFe/LiPo Battery Mod

Post by simonech »

Hi,
I have an hard time finding a shop that can sell the JST XH connector (XHP-3) needed to replace the connector of both LiPo and LiFe transmitter packs to fit into the 9x.
I'm referring to the ones shown on the Battery Mod page on the wiki.

Where can I buy some, possibly in Europe? I only found the 4 pins version, not the 3 pins.

Thx
Simone

Look for "sammylam" on ebay. That's where I got mine.

This is how I did it on mine. Bought this 2 cell balance lead, and on the other end applied a futaba type servo connector. Removed the extra wire and it's done. This extension is always plugged in the radio. This way, I will never switch the polarity accidently and I dont have to always connect and disconnect the battery to the plug on the radio board. I find it's more practical this way.
This is how it looks

This is the connector in the battery bay. Never remove it.

And here, the connector plugged to the battery

Good adapter!
I've been doing that for a while and like it. I also use the life 1500 3 cell to give me extra room in the battery compartment. For the price I own several 1500 Ma life's so I always have one ready. They hold their charge for a long time and I never worry that my tx battery needs charging, I just swap it out and charge it, usually at the field.
Good pictures, thanks.

Thanks SM, I like these life packs also. Fit nice in the battery compartment and has room to accommodate the adapter. And for the price, I don't think we could ask for more.

Hey guys,
I picked up this battery because I read that all the connectors were correct and no modding was needed.

Then I see the link above about doing a mod to make it fit the 9x. I'm confused. i have a FS TH9X-B coming and wanted to get all my parts together.
NSF,I like the wire mod you did and plan on doing it also.

I would eliminate the connector on the board in the 9x and just solder the wires directly.

Scooby, No mod is 'nessesary' to use your battery. I have 2 9xs with that battery all I had to do was pull the white housing from the pins in the 9x. The the Futaba connector on the battery slides onto the pins. You would need to be careful when you insert the battery to not get it shifted by one pin though.

The Futaba connector also fits perfectly with the white housing on the 9x. It even provides reverse polarity protection :)

While it does fit I never felt like the connector went on far enough.

it all depends on how many mAh the batteries are. Keep in mind that because you can't use the 2s fully, that you will need more mAh to compensate. You can't feed the 9x with less than 7v.

Anybody tried 14500 Lithium Batteries? They are the same size as AA. You could get carried away with 2 sets of 3s in parallel

I see a lot of 2300mah cells 14500 size lithium's on ebay, are they fake like many of the 18650s that claim 5000mah?
