Module for infrared controls?

Choosing an RF Module? What modules work? What is compatible with the 9x?

Module for infrared controls?

Post by Scurvy »

I'm just curious how 'universal' these can be made to be, and if anyone's done a module for IR or other controls?

I don't know how the innards work, but there are reports and videos of IR-controlled indoor helicopters (like the Syma S107G) being controlled via computer/arduino, and for me it would be very handy to just have 'my radio' to control everything I want to control.

Maybe the subset of n3rds like me who want this is too small to make it worthwhile. I may just have to learn enough to make one myself eventually... ;)

THere are a few threads already on 9xforums that discuss this,

Yes you can, use the ppm out , er9x used to have the it code to support it, not anymore.

Sorry, I've used the search to look for infrared, but the few results I get don't seem relevant.
I've looked for IR, but the search term is too short.
Since there are so many different versions of IR I wasn't sure what else to search for, hence my question.

Sorry if I'm making newbie mistakes with things, but would you mind pointing me in the correct direction?
Thanks.

AFAIK, infrared protocols were removed when DSM/Pxx protocols were added.
In the hex codes look for strings like Silv, Asilv, Bsilv, Ctrac.
I think that Silv relates to the Silverlit protocol.
I have several fw version saved on my pc and found it in firmware version 546 and lower. It is no more available in versions 638 and up. So it was removed somewhere in between.

I think they have been removed from er9x for saving flash. Do you need it? Would you be ok to test it in open9x? With our options system, it will be easy to re-enable it again.

But I will do only if somebody agrees for testing the feature.

Only 'limit' I believe is that the protocols are only for silverlit A/B/C. Not sure how much that limits against the variety of infrared heli's?
Slope Soaring, FPV, and pretty much anything 'high tech'
...........if you think it should be in the wiki.. ask me for wiki access, then go add it!

I found another thread through searching for LEDs, so just for my own interest I'll link it here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=244

Reading that thread lead me to this link (posted with video in the previous thread): http://forum.rcdesign.ru/f59/thread223818.html

Working through the seemingly-terrible Google Translation of the above Russian post led to this link: http://www.open.com.au/mikem/arduino/IRrc/

So it looks like it's not only possible but has been done already... makes me wonder when an intrepid entrepreneur will take my money for one.
Looks like I may have added something else to my 'to do' list! ;)
