This config is one I put together last night for my Phoenix 2000 e-glider.

The setup for this uses the mods from this thread. Extra 3POS Switch

This mod essentially allows you to replace POT3 with a 3 position switch. Usefull when doing models like this one.

Channel Assignments as follows:

CH1 -> THROTTLE
CH2 -> ELEVATOR
CH3 -> RUDDER
CH4 -> AILERON LEFT
CH5 -> AILERON RIGHT
CH6 -> FLAP LEFT
CH7 -> FLAP RIGHT
CH8 -> VARIO ON/OFF

Flight modes as follows:

ID0 -> POWER
ID1 -> FLY (GENERIC HANDLER -> NEEDS P3 3POS TO FUNCTION)
ID1 + P3POS UP -> FLY->FAST
ID1 + P3POS MIDDLE -> FLY->CRUISE
ID1 + P3POS DOWN -> FLY->THERMAL
ID2 -> LAND

P1 is a fine tuner for the amount of flap input.
RUD Switch engages aileron/rudder coupling
GVARS are used for differential and elevator compensation.
THR + !ID0 are saftey switches.

NOTE!
This model uses the throttle for both CROW and POWER. So if in POWER MODE, throttle stick gives power to the motor. If in LAND MODE, throttle stick is used for crow. So take your prop off until you get your head round it all!!

NOTE!
This template is for open9x.

Enjoy...

Just for my education, why did you make CS1?

It seems to me just having CS4 and CS 5 be AND ID1 CS2, CS3... produces identical results
and for
CS8 AND GEA ID1 eliminates the need for CS7.

for CS2 and CS3 should v2 be something like + or - 15 so low tolerance resistors would not make center position not work?

I know there is a hundred ways to skin a cat, but wonder if I'm missing something here.

Thanks for posting the setup.

Agreed. You could do in your way.

I whipped this together in an hour last night.. :-)

Yes.. The values should be changed to suit your radio/resistors :-)

Hi Rob
I can't open your zip/bin file in eepe. :( Can you export it as eepe model?

I have an Ph2k file for you and other pilots. It is for MaidenFligth
P1 is Flap. P2 is ELE compensation in ID1, P3 is ELE comp in ID2, ID0 no Flap.
TH% is TH% in ID0, and Butterfly in ID2. So you can save Flaps and Servos at touchdown.
Try it in the Simulator. Next Step ist making the Flaps slow, and the Ail as Flaps too.
Channels are RUD,ELE,TH,AIL1,AIL2,FLAP1,Flap2
!ELE is Safety SW for Motor, Butterfly runs with ELE or !ELE. :lol:

Rob,

The link to your template file does not seem to work!

Can you fix it?

Many Thanks

Works for me?

What is the actual issue you are having?

Rob,

Now works!

Don't know what the problem was - tried many times yesterday - kept getting a trying to connect from FireFox.

Cheers anyway!

May I ask what motor you use in the Phoenix2000 (I assume its the Ph2k from HK) ?
That's because my motor went dead and I need a new one. And which batteries? Any problems then with COG?

No idea! I have the standard one that comes with it!

Battery wise - just regular 1300mh lipos.

COG is quite broad - so pretty much anything will work!

1300mah sounds like a good idea. I fly 2200mah which makes the COG more relevant. I hated too far forward. Battery 2cm back and it's a whole new world.
l should fly lighter I know that. I think I would like that a lot better.

But no worries indeed that thing is a total puppy. It will always fly decently and stable even if fully out of trim and messed up. :)

Well it's not a total puppy, I crashed mine from 50 feet straight in on the nose fooling around with the failsafe. That nylon sure takes a beating! So far we burned out the motor and crashed again doing stunts to close to the ground. The openxvario variometer works well on this setup by the way. The motor I replaced it with was a 750 kv 28-30 propdrive from hobbyking with a 10x6 folding prop. This is not enough power for most pilots. The old one was higher kv but the same size. My battery is as far back as I can strap it down to the plywood. I am going to try an eleven x six prop when I get it flying again. It will sure handle more power than stock if you want. The motor mounts are square, not cruciform so have to be modified and you have to be careful not to screw the screws into the motor windings.

My Radian is just about ready for glider graveyard so may be tempted by one of these. WIll it be possible to add the same switch mod on the Taranis or is there another "solution" in the wings (sorry) for the same functions?

Not completely on topic but I'm contemplating switching the Trainer switch to the LH side when I buy the Taranis as it's easier to operate if you fly mode 2 I think.

Well..

No need to do a mod.

I think there are round about six 3pos switches on the taranis :)

Hi Guys,

I fly competition F3x type sailplanes... a lot. I am currently a JR 11x user, but can program JR, Spectyrum,Airtonics and Hitec at the field in a hurry.

I just got my Taranis and have been browsing all the links etc about programming this TX. I can see where there is a lot of flexibliity, but maybe to a fault? Looking at all that has been posted I am reminded about the 999,999 monkees sitting at 999,999 typewritters...no insult intended, but yipes....Its seems everyone who gets a Taranis has to recreat the wheel in order to program a sailplane with flight modes, ruddering to aileron mixing, flap to elevator full span camber.... or spend their evenings downloading other's setups then trying to figure out what they just put into their TX's.

I'm going to figure this thing out in any case, because I think it is an amazing value and tool.

One note for you guys using a nose motor in your sailplane as "electric launch". Motor planes have 'throttles' so they use the right stick as the planes SPEED control. Sailplanes use the right stick as their SPEED control too. Flaps control the speed on a saiplane. "Launch" control (the nose motor) should be on the right slider....never on a switch! If you bump the slider, the prop swings, not chops. Using the slider provides a soft start for the prop too. Its safer than all the options.

The difference between an electric power flier and an electric launch saiplane pilot flying radians? One comes to the field with a bag full of batteries.

Thanks to all youi guys for working on programming!

This template is for a 9X radio that does not have sliders :-)

you can have a soft start with a switch too ;) In fact you can have anything you want with that radio :D
You can also allow the motor to start ONLY when certain conditions are met..

Hmmm, I love taking a lot of batteries to the field.. I have a field charger too. Just love the power. Better yet is to take a nice huge model with a huge noisy petrol engine ;) it rocks :mrgreen:

@ReSt:
The turnigy 2836 1000kv works nice.

@GordySoar:
With opentx you can control throttle and flaps with the throttle stick.

yeah, all of the open source firmware can easily do something like that... and much more ;)
Have a look at the logical switches. :)

I have my crow brake set up so bottom 49% of throttle stick is brake and top 49% is throttle. (deliberate small dead spot in the middle)

I have a voice repeat "landing" every 10 seconds so I know I am in this mode.

So if approach goes wrong, just power up and climb.

No trying to switch modes out of brake and into power mode.

It's not easy to get that small deadband.
With a curve for the motor, you can widen the deadband so that your motor only runs on the upper third of the throttle stick

Not sure if this is the right place for my query but here goes. I am a grey nomad (code for old bugger) and recently got a Taranis plus. Am gradually getting my head around the programming but still at basic level. I fly mainly fixed wing with a couple of powered gliders. I want to get into the various options for control setups like crow etc. I have separate servos for flaps and ailerons and have managed to get to a point where I can get flaps down ailerons up by using a switch but as I understand "crow" I still want to be able to use my ailerons whilst in the crow position. I feel like I should be using a Flight mode but that is one part of the programming that is still in the too hard basket. So my questions are
(1) Has anyone got a very simple setup for crow and also using flaps to operate in line with my ailerons. Most of the setups I have seen are well above my paygrade.
(2) Is there any sort of "Flight modes for dummies" information out there. I need to step through the process and wondered if anyone has done a schematic or flow chart style document to track the flight mode process.
As you realise the Open TX/TPlus is very addictive and although I have had success with a lot of the functionality there is so much more for me to learn.
Hope all that makes sense and appreciate any guidance.
Cheers
Chris

Have you looked at Richard Marzek's series on YouTube? They are about previous versions of er9x but the basics are all there. They are long but is an excellent learning tool. You will come away understanding the "computer language " of er9x. Their are many other tutorials on YouTube that are worthwhile also.
