throttle problems (Video Inside)

Post by mrraine »

Hi all

I have never flown before and this is the first time i have setup radio plane so please don't shoot me.

I bought a turnigy 9x and have upgraded it to er9x with some soldering and such. Nothing to tricky.

The version of the firmware that i have is
er9x-r003
v1.1481-mike
07.08.2013
mod = (blank)

The software seems much more intuitive but i am having some issues with the throttle.

What i would like "should" be very basic in my mind but i am having great difficulty in configuring it.

Scenario 1
My plane goes out of range and or looses signal. The ESC is configured to shutdown the throttle after a few seconds of signal lost. This is working as it should.

Scenario 2
My plane is connected but my radio is turned off. All switches are at there default positions. As i switch the radio on the motor "blips" and makes a few rotations. if i turn on the splash screen the motor spins at approximately 50% until i move any stick or press any key.

Scenario 3
My plane is switched on but my radio is turned off. the throttle is at 5% and the tx has been configured to show a throttle warning. As i turn the radio on the throttle warning is displayed but the motor spins at 50% until i click any button or move any stick and the throttle returns to 5%.

obviously this should not be happening??????

I have read a 100 times that the tx should always be turned on first but this seems like such and obvious fault waiting to bite my fingers off.

i have attached a video showing the problem [BBvideo 425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCc-HiOC5zM[/BBvideo]

You need to set a failsafe on your throttle?

...........if you think it should be in the wiki.. ask me for wiki access, then go add it!

That is a know issue with the turnigy module/receivers. It's not a tx configuration problem.
My advice would be to upgrade to a frsky RF module and receiver.. it has a very good failsafe system..

Be very welcome to the openRC forums by the way, and no one is going to shoot you here ;) :D

EDIT: Rob, the turnigy receivers don't have failsafe.. :)

What happens is the Tx (before the module) holds off on sending any signal out, until all alarms are cleared. Older turnigy, and other modules won't output anything until they get a signal to send. The newer Turnigy modules (due to a programming error) will output center pulses on all channels, even though it has not been given an input. That is why your motor runs at half speed.

Hi all, many thanks for the responses. I have installed the sticky T-cut template and applied it to the tx. it works great but not at all when the tx is restarted? any clues on how to get this to work on the tx startup?

Thank you

Adam

The only way is to ditch the Turnigy module. Like Jhsa suggested, go with the Frsky module instead. You can even get telemetry with the Frsky stuff. As for what to do with the Turnigy module, take another of Jhsa's suggestions and use a hammer!
