er9x Turnigy V14 with Frsky DIY conversion.ccpm help

Post by tonjo »

Hello, i am a *newbie* to heli`s and fast approaching my 75 th year.Due to health and economic factors, need to find something to fly in my backyard, hence this new challenge. Before i took the plunge, tried a small 4 channel bird(co axial) which i fly around the house, also i had the Tx and Phoenix Sim from my RC aircraft and gliders.Bought H/king 450 V2 kit and this is built(very slowly and carefully). Now trying to set up the head, but am in trouble(have er9x version 649)cannot get the servo`s
sequence.Loaded the Heli template,but only get movement on CH1 and CH2(one up one down)reversed.Also had trouble with subtrims,so set them up with a 3 channel servo tester(servo`s HK 900).These are the readings from my TX(screen3/10)swash type 120.Collective CH11 ?.Swash ring 6.AIL inv.Mixer5/10.CH1 100% CYC1.ditto ch2 and 3.and 4.CH5 100% THR IDOc1.+100%THR ID1c2 +100%THR ID2 c3.R-100% MAX THR.CH6 30% FULL !GEA. CV4 -30 -15 0 50 100
CV5 -100 -50 0 50 100
CV6 -100 -50 0 50 100.
The only way i can get ch6 servo to move,is to flip the gear switch forward.? where is ch11 coming from.Obviously something is very wrong here!! i need some serious help please. This is giving my brain a lot of exercise.
Thank you guys.Tony.

Are you able to post your eepe file? That will help debug the issue.

Hello Rob,thank you for replying to my troubles.I do not use eepe,as it would not recognise my USbasp programmer, use Extreme Burner instead as this is dedicated to Usbasp programmers.Have WIN 7 Ultimate 32 bit.The heli set up is part of the standard er9x Templates.(I can use eepe files with my burner) ,my burner can read the eprom file and save it,but it is all part of er9x version 649.(have not used any seperate files)
I hope this helps.

You should be able to open the firmware hex file using eePe. (the one you download from the tx)

And then save out the particular model?

Hello Gohst, further to your newer tutorial for the HK 450,Going to try this tomorrow, however, one thing is missing. On the heli menu 3/10,what did you replace ch 11 with after set up please.Looking at the mixers i guess this is ch 5 or is it THR.
Can you please kindly confirm.
Thank you.Tony.

Hello this is for Gohst or anyone whom can help with my continued problem with er9x heli settings for HK450 v2.Am working with Gohst latest tutorial using er9x v 322.Have followed his instructions in the first part,ie getting the servo`s
all working as they should, at the same time using my swatch plate tool to obtain level swatch. This i have achieved,ie when i move throttle they all move up or down.My problem is i cannot get any movement from the pitch servo when using the elevator and aileron. I have Turnigy 9x Md 2 v 1.4 with Frsky conversion, so receiver is a V8.Servo connections,Ch1 is elevator.Ch2 is aileron(as from pilots view) Ch 3 is the throttle,Ch4 rudder,Ch5 pitch servo.Ch6 gyro sense. The gyro is not connected at the moment and the motor and esc are not connected,Using a seperate BEC giving 6 volts for power.(on Ch3).The epee file will be attached.I have used the heli settings from er9x(had to change from Ch11 to Ch5 on the heli setting to get the THR pitch control working).Have not gone any further with Gohst set up until i can get all the servo`s with the correct cyclic movement.I have now tried this with several versions of er9X but suffer the
same fault!!.Thought my Tx might be faulty, but built a little flat model out of Depron with 6 channels and everything worked as it should.
Hope someone out in the community can help with my problem.

I think you have your servos in the wrong places. Based on your eepe file it should be:

1 rear cyclic servo
2 left or right cyclic servo
3 the other cyclic servo
4 rudder input to gyro
5 throttle connection to esc
6 gyro gain input

You might have to swap 2 and 3 to get it all working the right way.

You also have some other problems in the eepe file.
- Put the collective source back to ch11. Ch11 is a "virtual" channel where all the pitch curves are calculated to input to the cyclic mixer.
- Change the first mix in ch 11 to:
+100% THR Switch IDO curve C4 ( you have -100% THR Switch ELE curve C7)

That and putting the servos in as in the post above should get things closer.

And for safety unplug the motor from the ESC till you get all the motions correct.

Pat, many heli pilots fly with reversed throttle stick.. Maybe that's why he had -100 THR on ch11?

Just my guess

The other two mixes were at +100%, so the collective was doing odd stuff.
But he was using ch5 as the collective input, so I assumed he tried a few things with ch11 first but they didn't work right because he had the servos all in wrong.

If you want to pull for collective then reversing the throttle in the general settings might be better. That is what it is intended for.

Hello and special Thanks to Pat and jhsa, followed your suggestions and apart from having to reverse the collective, have all the correct movements on the cyclic. Can now continue with setting up my heli(the settings i had were from the
Trex 450 build manual).
Thanks to everyone.
