ERSky9x, setting up V911

Post by interestingfellow »

I had the V911 setup on Opentx just great!

But I recently upgraded my 9x with an ar9x, m9's, and an extra 3 position switch (on RUD) and I'm not as well versed in ER9x as I was OpenTx.

On the bench, with THold on, my aileron and elevator works correctly.
As soon as I flip THold (Ele) the aileron servo centers, and stays there.
IF I Flip off the THold, I get aileron control back (but, no throttle, of course)
What did I do wrong that my aileron centers with throttle hold?

I have sticky throttle on a safety switch tied to ELE (X !Ele THR)
I have a throttle hold programmed on Thr to ELE (as I did in opentx)
CH3 Thr
R- Full !Ele

The radio is set to RETA, but I have the mixes ordered AETR (as I did in opentx)

Thanks!

PS
I can't figure out how to check what version of ER9x I am running on my AR9x, but I know it's 218 or newer. How do I check?

Radio Setup / Version :)

If you have the Ar9x board installed, you are not using Er9x but Ersky9x instead.

So, please download your radio's eeprom onto Eerpskye (not Eepe), save it to your computer, zip it and post it here so we can look at your model.
I believe that openTX and Ersky9x are quite similar as far as heli programming is concerned..

Yeah, I was trying to post my eepe, but have since figured out the forum doesn't like eepe files. Kind of ironic...

Yes about companion and eepsky, etc.
Yes about OpenTx adn Ersky9x, but there are a handful of confusing differences when one isn't familiar with them.

EDIT
I keep getting an HTTP error when trying to attach eepe or zip file. BRB

Version 221

I pm'd the eepe to you.

I don't know why the forum won't let me attach it to the thread, but it will let me attach it to a pm....silly.

You have programmed a sticky safety switch on channel 1 (Ail). That is why the Aileron stops working. Maybe you should program it on channel 3, which is the throttle?

But you already have a mix on channel 3 setting the throttle to -100 when the ELE switch is ON. So, why the safety switch on channel 1 which is the Aileron??
This won't work on Ersky9x, and it wouldn't work in openTX. How do you say that this worked with openTX? it is just not possible..
You are trying to set a throttle cut twice. Once in the mixer, and once in the safety switches. But you got the wrong channel in the safety switches. :)

Just delete the safety switch setting and see if it works..

HOW SILLY OF ME!
I guess I didn't realize that it was CH1 and not safety switch "#1". Small oversight, big issue.

Thank you!

(coincidentally, I'm having display issues again, anyway, so i'm going to head back over to the ar9x thread on rcgroups)

I want a safety switch to when first turning on the model (safety switch)
but
I also want to be able to enable a throttle hold whenever I want (like in the mixer)

Is there a more acceptable way to do both of those?

Got it.
Safety Switches
Set the correct channel to "S" with the switch you want to use with a weight of -100

If you use 'X' then you get a "sticky" safety switch that requires the throttle stick to be at -100% before the throttle responds.

LOL, yep. I had read that but didn't quite get it until I tried it. For a throttle safety at takeoff that's great....during a motor cut and autogyro, it's baaaad if you need to power up and throttle out. "S" for me, it is.

Thanks!

X give you an added safety so that your V911 can not start up when your throttle stick is not all the way down when your throttle switch is turned on.
Safety Switch, X Setting for Throttle (CH3)
Safety Switch, X Setting for Throttle (CH3)
X prevents model start up when an operator dose not realize his throttle stick is not all the way down when the throttle switch is turned on.

Yes, but he has an heli. What he wants is a throttle Hold, not a throttle-Cut. In this case, the "X" doesn't apply.
Actually, I think that maybe it is better to program the throttle hold in the mixer, and the throttle cut in the safety switches menu, but I don't know the model he is programming, so i can't give any advice really :)

The V911, I got several and they are a toy, that you mostly fly inside
(you can fly them outside. but if you go high and far you can easily lose them).
I do not know why one would want Throttle Hold with this toy.
The battery are very small and I find do not last very long, causing a need to adjust throttle up all the time.
If one wants to try Throttle Hold, its OK with me, I just think it is not something that is useful,
because as the battery decreases in power the V911 will keep drop to the ground.

As I said, I don't know the model.
I believe that in more complex heli setups the throttle hold can be used in situations where we want to move the collective but keep the engine at idle, or the motor stopped if the model is electric.

It has no pitch control on the blades, you program it like a quad or airplane.
For $17 delivered, it has some fun to it and using er9x or erSky9x with your 9x radio help to fly it better,
over the transmitter that you can purchase to fly with it.

Then it makes no sense to program throttle hold as it is the speed of the rotor that makes it fly, and not changing the angle of the rotor blades :)

Yes, BUT

I also fly larger CCPM heli's, and as a matter of safety and habit, I program them all the same way, or at least by the same set of "rules". I don't want to turn on my transmitter and have my model do some crazy stuff or get lost, I want to know that someone isn't going to get maimed or mutilated, and hitting the ground under 0 power can reduce damage (again, developing the habit of cutting throttle in certain situations).

Plus, just switched to ERSky9x, and figured it would be smart to setup my smaller and cheaper models first, learn the differences from OpenTx, and have the kinks worked out for setting up models before I got to a 450 or 600... I also have an Assault100 that is CCPM, and used what I learned from the 911. Had I tried TH with an X on the assault, I would have definitely had to have my autogryro skills on point (which I don't LOL), especially since the blades have no mass and no one way bearing.

I can't say thank you to y'all, enough!
