Youtube Videos

Post by Rob Thomson »

Hi All,

I have just added in a youtube parsing system to the forum.

The system tries to auto match youtube video links and then embeds them into the forum.

So..

Code: Select all

[url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znH8bTTgZ9w[/url]
Will result in this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znH8bTTgZ9w

It is still highly beta - and needs testing so lest see how we get on with it :D

Right. I have a bug!

it is working in this scenario:

If you paste in just the link:

Code: Select all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dFr74DIz3s&feature=youtu.be&hd=1
but now if you past it in with url tags

Code: Select all

[url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dFr74DIz3s&feature=youtu.be&hd=1[/url]
I will sort it later today.

My opinion is as long as you get there, no big deal if the viewer frame isnt there.

Oh hi rob, I didnt know it was site specific. Again no biggie, but, vimeo IMO is better than youtube because of processing. At least for HD files, vim downgrades less.

That 2nd test was me just trying to put it in the url brackets, but I guess since its not set up for vimeo, it doesnt matter, anyway, Great job on the site. Thanks much .

I have used a 'plugin' for this - but to be honest it is a bit rubbish.

I will write my own version on monday - will be more efficient and flexible :D

I was able to embed a youtube video :)
my main issue was that the link youtube provides by default is a 'short' link.
in order for the embedding to work I needed to use the 'long' link (under ...options)
I got it now ;)

thanks Rob..... This just answered my pain and suffering I have had for the last half an hour trying to figure out you you do it on this forum...

I tried everything from Frame Tags to Video Tags .... and nothing worked..... so simply clicking on Code and adding the link works..... I will test it right now ....

Code: Select all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmjeniKg-mw
Nope ... just posted the above that and it does not work :(

I will try simply adding the link....
