Registering on forum - Captchas

Post by simonchambers »

Hi All,

First post, and it took a while to get here! I know Captchas are important to stop spammers, however the admins might want to look at the ones generated by this forum software.

It took me a good 20 attempts before I finally could 'guess' one correctly.

Here are a couple of Captchas that I had tried, but got wrong, as examples:

It may be me, however none of them I got right... I'm not colour blind and never normally have so much trouble with captchas.

Now its never good to have a first post as a groan, however I thought it would be best to say as it may be stopping many legitimate users from signing up.

Cheers,
Si.

I do understand your issue... However the simpler catcha images are of little benefit.

The spammers these days have software that scans the image and extracts the text!

And trust me... Stopping spam is very important!

Rob

If you look at the image 'full size' it is not distorted.. and then rather easy?

As follows:

5BkBK
HNH3W
1nPC2uS
4YX2
3EB7x
gAVV14
5KdC5

Is this too hard?

Well it must have been too hard for me, I failed on all of them! :(
I was actually reading an interesting article earlier on the BBC website about Captchas and their complexitiy - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18367017

Maybe I had trouble because I'm dyslexic? Or the contrasting colours don't allow the text to show up clearly on my monitor? Either way, I've never had so much trouble, ever, with Captchas! I thought I better say as, apart from the severe frustration I had of trying to get registered, I wouldn't be surprised if there are many people have tried but given up (and so can't complain about it!). I would had thought it would be especially hard for those that don't use the Latin character set for their first language.

For what its worth, I had to refresh the image about 12 times before I thought I could read one, then got it wrong anyway... :)
I'll agree with simon - never had so much trouble with them on other forums and they don't suffer from spam either... *shrug*
I guess if you're keen enough (as I was) then you persist until you work one out!
