Hello;

Long timer reader first time poster. First on my agenda is to see if there is any way to change my user name to flyn_brian or a variant there of. It seems when I registered that name wasn't accepted. Thank you Rob for creating these forums. It's a great spot to learn and share :D

Funny you should mention that I got into brewing beer at one time and I bet I made a beer you would like as well as a beer you would not like.

I tried to send you a message but apparently when I went to compose a message I got the dreaded" We are sorry, but you are not authorised to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate more to be able to use this feature."

Welcome to 9x forums

Post by chris »

Good Day All. I am relatively new to fpv. I have just purchased a Turnigy 9x. I plan on upgrading it and modifying it any way I can to get the strongest signal and best range for fpv flight. Can anyone get me a list of what I should do. I read alot of diy frsky mods and new firmware, and its all pretty confusing. I would like someone to tell me what I can do to my radio to make it awesome and at least give me the ability to fly fpv without worrying about losing my signal. Im not worried about saving money. Thanks in advanced.

Dragon link or other uhf type tx module setup is best for long range fpv.

Time to introduce myself.

I am entirely new to remote control of anything other than a TV. I am so bad at it that the "turbulence" created by our central air condition causes me to have trouble hovering a coaxial micro helicopter. So I figured that I will need a lot of money for repairs and can't spend so much on a remote.

On the other hand I do have a little bit of experience with electronics and am a software engineer. I am able to design a simple circuit, do the math behind it and have programmed and flashed micro controllers (Microchip PICs so far but Amtel's look similar enough). I love tinkering with "stuff" and know how to use a soldering iron. I do have a Dremel tool and contact cement. I have no idea how far my R/C pilot skills may progress, but I am certain that the 9x is "my kind of remote".

Regards,
Jan

P.S.: Found this thread via search and didn't realize that the "Welcome to the 9x forums" thread is under the FPV Projects until after I posted the above. Not that I have any problems with being off topic. Just saying.
Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the RC helicopter as it fell, was, "OH NO, NOT AGAIN."

Welcome... and thanks for noting the thread being in the wrong place!

I guess it was moved by a mod at some point by mistake.

I am German, but I live in the United States. The local beer store here has a good variety of Belgian, German and British stuff, so I'm not missing much. 8-)

where in the US? Helps you get local help or parts if someone else is in your area. So many leave this out and miss out.

Willow Grove, PA. Just north of Philadelphia. I'll add that to the profile.

Thanks, the telemarketers know all about where you live but we're more help ha ha.
I live in LA but so we're not too far apart for future help.

Don't worry, that's no news to the telemarketers. I've been on the InterWebs since the beginning and never really tried to hide. It's not too difficult to find out my real name and since I have been an open source developer of a rather well known project for some 17 years, giving talks on conferences and all that, I am very well known to Google. My real name isn't very common, but in double quotes it yields an estimated 139,000 Google hits because it appears in dozens of public copies of mailing list archives thousands of times. The first couple of thousand Google search results are 95+% good and they include images, my LinkedIn and Facebook profiles and all that.

With that kind of information out there about yourself, it is utter nonsense to even try to hide.

Regards,
Jan

Hi Rob,
Glad I found this site :)
Knew it was on the web somewhere.
Have just purchased the Turnigy 9x and am doing the full compliment of mods.
I also have a Spektrum DX7 which I will continue to use until I get the 9x up to speed.
Am waiting on the backlit screen from HobbyKing and also the programing board from Smartieparts.
Love the look of the updated 9x firmware and am keen to be up and running.
The new firmware makes the Spektrum look like a dinosaur.
Anyhow enough rant for now but looking forward to my upgrades..

Cheers
Steve
