I'm sure it'll install ok. I've repaired and reinstalled the original hand wired circuit for a club member and this is so much smaller and neater that I has to try it.

I'm a little confused about the mega sound firmware update files. Where ate they listed? If I do an eepe er9x update where will I find the megasound FW update?
I understand about how to update megasound just not where the files are?

Megasound board issue.
I'm still fighting to get any audio files to play back but I seem to have another issue, maybe.
Before I soldered the D0-D4 lines from my 9x board, when I connected the USBasp programmer it would power the radio and LCD on. Just connecting one wire from my 9x LCD D0-D3 (pin 6-9) lines to the mega board stops the 9X from displaying. If I turn my 9x power on the display works and I can flash my FW. From the mega board schematic I see that D0-D3 lines go directly to the Atmega328 input pins. I'm assuming that without power, the Atmega is loading down the LCD lines?
Is this normal for this design? With the programmer connected I read 5 v VCC on the m64 and do have 3.3 volts out of that regulator. I've even fed another 5V source directly to the 9x 5V buss and still no LCD display. Disconnecting D0-D3 restores the display when powered by my programmer.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1367476260.567020.jpg
I still can't get any voice output but one thing at a time. I'm hoping someone else with this board will jump in and fill in the missing pieces I'm dealing with.
There are posts, and videos about installation but none actually show any 9x FW updates bring done after the install or troubleshooting. The way it looks the megasound board must be powered to not load down the LCD data lines? Because its powered from the tx battery source that means the 9x must be on. If that's the case then one should probably not let the programmer output 5 v from the USB buss?
More factual installation info and what to expect as I get mine working.
The only other outcome could be that I have received a defective board from the start and these things are normal? No way for me to know that at this point until I hear from someone with a working setup.

I have a sound board with the emartee module and the radio behaves similar to yours.
Before the board was connected, the display was working, powered from the Usb programmer.
With the soundboard installed, the display stays off.

BUT radio, programming and soundmodule do work.
And I have flashed the radio powered from Usb, with and without the radio switched on.

Good news about you having the same display is due. Yes my board seems to program ok. I'll reconnect all the wiring again and move on to the announce issue.
The board is new and my soldering is good so I must be missing something?
Does your version board use .wav files in the root of the sd card?
The board should work. The audio is working and the BL control. I can't control the volume and I thought that was posable from the menu?
Got any good ideas on how I can force a announce?
I think this is a hegahe board design? I'm learning as I go. I had hoped more people had bought and installed them before I did.
Thanks got clearing up the display issue. I'll not worry about not and carry on with the announce.

Yes the megasound board must be powered for the display to work. So if you want your LCD to be on when flashing (why?) power radio on and disconnect the programmer's 5V.
Nothing special to flash with er9x, just select "BeeperVoice" or "PiSpkrVoice" in the radio settings.

Wav files, I'm good there thanks.

Ok, one more questions, for now.
I wonder what the max size memory micro SD card is I can use with the megasound
I'm using an 8gb one. I see the emartee can only use a 1 g max if I'm reading the specs correctly.
I don't think I saw a megasound max size listed. That could be what's going with my install, the sd card is to large?!

It's correct, that the emartee module is a little bit picky with the cards and, yes, I run it with a 1GB SD card.

On the other hand, I know, that I tested the m328 voice board with several different cards that all did work. But I don't know anymore, what cards I tested. (But nothing else than up to 4 GB SCHC, maybe also < 1GB, but not sure)

My MegaSoun 9X using 8GB microSD card. No problem.
However, I found an anonymous small cards that are slow, in the power on voice greeting below.

Please check the voltage of the C8 capacitor both sides (3.3V)!

I don't mind not having the display on when programming. Shy this was confusing is that for 2 years the LCD always came on when connected to the USBasp programmer and that was normal every time. After the mega board install no LCD display! It was never mentioned and is not listed in the instal and test instructions so it was a not expected!
It should listed I think. I alsoay be using a sd memory size too large for the board to access 8GB, and maybe shy my announce is not working? It also is not listed as a max memory size? I see the emartee board lists 1GB max. I see no max posted for the mega so I hope that's what I'm doing wrong, 8GB.
It was $6 so I bought it.
About the USBasp programmer 5V. Is there really any harm having the programmer and the 9x both on at the same time? Both are 5 volts, just in parallel. I guess the 9x could back feed into the USB port in the computer?

change the volume settings and check if the beeper volume also changes. That would prove that your data connections are all good.

I produced a test version of code for the Megasound module, it automatically plays a sound (0040.WAV) so tests the internal working and SD card operation.
amod_last_test.zip
(13.75 KiB) Downloaded 206 times
Did I see you understand how to reflash the Megasound board using the serial bootloader in it?

The Megasound board is powered from the battery supply, so if you power from the USB programmer it is not powered. Then the internal protection diodes of the '328 hold the LCD data lines low, hence no LCD display.

Have you got a backlight fitted via the Megasound board? If that works it is also a test that connections are generally OK.

Bl works
Pb7 connected
Speaker makes beeps and siren from the 9x.
No announcements from the 8G sd card root is the only failure.
I will try another ad card.

I'm OK now that the LCD will be OFF when programming the 9x with er9x because of the atmege328 protection diode.
Er9x programs OK!
More tonight
Thank you for your help.

The beeper volume does not change with the menu?
That and the announcement still not working. I'll try a sd card from my working sky boards. My soldering and mounting is good and well done. The power in is 9.9v. I understand now why the LCD is blank when programming er9x. Too bad I didn't know it would happen before I removed my nice wires. Now it's now 100% nice only 98%.
I have BL control and beeps from the speaker. Menu set to pispkvoice.
I'm so close to it working. The fun is in the troubleshooting, correct?
More when I know more.

Mike,
I don't want to panic and reflash the test mega FW but if I will as a last resort.
I don't want to change too many things until I rule out the sd card.
The install is pretty simple and the wiring diagram well done. The blank LCD when USBasp powered got me way off track right away rechecking everything. Bad I known that was normal I would have focused on the sd card straight off.
It now may be as simple as trying another smaller memory size sd card.
Thanks for your help. I may need it if I give up and flash the test FW or reflash the original later on.
I can't work on this until tonight. It's 7:32Am Thursday now,
SM

The backlight uses LCD D2, and the '328 just copies the value to the backlight output when it is clocked in. As it is working, this shows the PB7 connection and LCD D2 are OK. Volume and voice output require a command to be clocked in on lines LCD D0 and LCD D1. Worth double checking you have these correct and not swapped. LCD D3 is currently spare, for future expansion!
If volume isn't working on the beeps, this points to commands from the M64 to the '328 rather than a problem with the SD card.

As Mike said, and that's why I asked if the volume is working, you might have a connection problem with the D0 and D1 lines.. You could have swapped them?

I'll resolder it all tonight.
I'm using the pictorial diagram on the mega site with the color coded wiring as my guide.
I'll also try my 8g sd in my skyboard to see that the audio files play there. I'll swap the sky as into my 9x as another test.
I have a copy of the hegahe schematic showing D0-D3 wiring to the Atmega pins and I'll verify the connections.
Thanks to everyone I have many thinks to try. I have an ok scope and a data monitoring USB device I bought at a Arduino meeting. Maybe it's time to use them to see what's going on with the LCD lines. Anyone have any data display I can compare to?
Thanks
This I'm sure is a simple issue and I'm missing something. I'll clear my head today and try again tonight.

Well, still no announcement?
I resoldered my ribbon cable from D0-D3. Not as pretty as the first 2 times but the solder connections are ok.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1367544983.800625.jpg
I formatted a 4 gb mini sd card and added the wav files into the root. Still nothing. I get beeps from the speaker but no volume control r788 Frsky NOHT.
I was asked to measure the voltage on the mega board at c8 and it's 3.31 volts.
I created a "voice" folder on the 4g sd and loaded the wav files I downloaded from be mega site into it and used it in my Ver B sky board and they play as should be.
I'm not sure what to try next before I return it for a retest. I do have this USB analyzer but haven't learned how to use it.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1367546152.239865.jpg
If it's helpful and with a little guidance, I'll give it a try on the LCD data lines into the mega board.
That or try a mega FW flash as a last resort. Maybe Mikes test FW?

I keep thinking it's something I'm not doing right so I'll try any suggestions.
No shorting or reversed battery has happened to date!
