Complete 9x mod Instructions

Post by mbanzi »

I recently completed a full mod of a FlySky transmitter and realized there wasn't a single source detailing all the mods without a fair amount of digging. As someone who still has to look up the syntax for the "for" statement in C everytime I use it after 20+ years of software development, I decided to create this guide for self-reference and hope someone else may find it useful.

My goal was to have a fully modded transmitter (except for sound), with the original FlySky, FrSky & DSM2/X modules. I completed all the mods at the same time which is not the best approach if you don't have much experience with general electronic work. Ideal would be to do one mod at a time and make sure it works before doing the next.

I will link to each mod to a post below as I complete them:
  1. Transmitter mods
    1. Battery
    2. Backlight
    3. Programmer
    4. Speaker & Haptic
    5. Telemetry
  2. Module mods
    1. FrSky
    2. FlySky
    3. DSM2/X

Battery mod

Post by mbanzi »

Battery

First step is to remove the stock 8xAA battery holder and replace it with a rechargeable battery. I chose to use the HobbyKing 1500mAh 9.9v 1C LiFe battery, as I've had a lot of success with it. Make sure you have a charger that can charge LiFe batteries if you go this route.

The stock battery connector uses a JST XH-series connector. They are widely available from eBay or suppliers like Digi-Key in the USA.

I recommend doing one wire at a time to avoid shorts.

Complete 9x mod Instructions

Could I request that rather than reserving slots... And posting instructions on the forum... Can we do this on the wiki, and have one post linking to it?

Forum posts get lost. wiki information is much better organised.

...........if you think it should be in the wiki.. ask me for wiki access, then go add it!

Agreed! Didn't occur to me to check if I had access to the Wiki. I do a lot of Wiki docs at work, so I'm pretty familiar with the markup. I do prefer the ability to easily expand images in the forum though.
