Help choosing Frsky gear for my 9X?

Post by Redbrickman »

I'm about to buy my Frsky moduels and receivers.

There seems to be quite a selection of receivers, so in order to make sure I don't get the wrong type some advice would be great ;)

I plan to use the DJT module as outlined in MikeB's mod sheet.

I want telemetry and maybe 8 channels on some models eventually, so I am thinking...

8ch 2.4ghz Frsky 2 way receiver D8R II

But also see they have a D8R II Plus

Any difference, or any other recommendations?

Anything in the 9X pipeline that would make one receiver better than another?

Just noticed this too

Would it be possible to use the DJT and the Fld 2 as a screen that could be mounted up near the antenna this making it easier to see telemetry data when flying?

If so how would it interface with Er9X?

I don't know much, but I do know that the D8R II Plus is what you'd want for FPV because you can set it up for RSSI to get receiver voltage in the HUD. I believe I read that you can upgrade the firmware for the D8R II and it can do this trick also.

The fld display does not talk to the 9x.

If you go that route - you are simply isn't an 'external' solution to edit and view the telemetry data. So no need to do the frsky firmware and telemetry mods.

Personally... Use the frsky version!

Sorry Rob I am a little confused. Do you mean better to use the Frsky DJT module and mods?

Having thought about it since I posted I guess there isn't too much advantage to the Fld display as one still has to look down to see any data, and the 9x with mods can still sound an alarm for low voltages so looking at the display when flying is not so important.

Yes!

I see little reason to use the external display. A modded radio is much more functional :)
