Hello,

You may have noticed a few changed!

The forum is re-branding too: "opentxforums.com"

This change has been decided as the whole areana has changed. No longer are we only servicing the 9X!

All good in the long term

:-)

Lol... Actually not.

Been bouncing around the idea for some time :-)

The old domain name will still work - so no issue!

All the links pointing to a particular page/post are broken though. You'll need to find a way to have that redirected too!

Well, it also decided to block me from posting this afternoon because some dynamically updated rule apparently decided an email address @ a dynamic dns provider was unsuitable - good thing I could change it myself :P

I guess Rob is just bored, just have to find something to do, ie update all links so they still work.
no wonder no reminder for all my subscribed topic today.
You need to go out and fly, Rob!

This has been done.

Actually was already in place - but I found a bug in my rule causing some pages to break!

All seems ok now.

Maybe separate sections in the hardware area for 9X, 9XR, and whatever comes next?

I think it's time to revive the thread about reorganising the forums indeed while we're at it!

I'm a little confused on the direction. The tagline says, "Custom firmwares, hacks and mods for radio control transmitters. Including all flysky 9X clones, Turnigy 9XR, FRSky X9D, X12D, Sky9X, Gruvin9X and more.."

By "Opentx", I think you mean to broaden the scope... and I get that, I guess... but I don't get how you've lumped some of those together. I mean, really what in the world does the FrSky offerings have to do with the 9x? I'll cede that the 9xr was a "clone" of the 9x, but only in some aspects. The FrSky stuff can hardly be called "clones".

I might suggest a tagline along these lines instead (not intended verbatim... just to get you thinking): "Hacks for radio control transmitters that support opensource firmware". That way its specific in its direction, but generic in what radios it actually covers. And I think it needs to be if we're going to start incorporating completely dissimilar units like the FrSky family.

I'd then go along with the suggestion that each needs its own section. There can always be an "other" that gets split when any newcomer grows in popularity.

Now, another thing to ask yourself. Is the distinction "radios that use opensource firmware" or specifically radios that use 9x-based firmware? If the latter, then honestly I would have stuck to the previous name. But now that you've opened up the name... I say open it up to any opensource radio project. So if Futaba shocks the world tomorrow and announces they're opensourcing their code... it belongs here even if its 0% compatible with the code we already work with.

Just foods for thought.

I agree on the tag line and the clarification.

I just have not updated yet. :-P

All takes time.

Right..

As I am now on my pc and can reply in full.

The forum has until recently provided a support group/community for everything to do with the custom firmwares for the 9x radios. A byproduct of this has been the support of all the hardware, and various sub projects that have kicked off.

That was fine a year ago. Back then we had just the 9X radio to worry about!

Move forward to the present..

We now have:

TH9X - All versions. (rumored to be replaced by something else that FlySky are making)
Turnigy9XR - New hardware - Same firmware
Gruvin9X - Main Board upgrade for the 9x
Sky9X - Main Board upgrade for the 9x
FrSky - X9D - Different Hardware All Together
FrSky - X12D - Different Hardware All Together
Frsky - X16D - Different Hardware All Together

Now that is allot of different platforms! Add this to the fact that the channel count is going up to 16 channels on the higher end frsky kit.

Clearly, the reality is that this is a very different arena. The firmware has it's roots in the original th9x firmware and hardware. But move forward a few years and that fact will become less clear. The distinctions will become allot more difficult to make.

As a result.. the forum is re branding to reflect the change that is coming.

Now.. this does in effect mean that the forum could potentially become a hub for 'other' opensource radios.

For example: http://os-rc.com/en/ and http://www.deviationtx.com/

Will it? I dont know. That is what the community will decide / steer.

I suspect it will stay as a forum related to the open firmwares that have their roots with th9x. (even though we have always had sections for radioclone and the stock firmware)
ABBC3_OFFTOPIC
As a teaser... there is another little change going on in the background. This will fit in nicely with all these changes.

I will leave it to the persons involved to announce when they are ready!

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! Every bookmark broken .... GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
Not good! You need 301 redirects in place as all your Google results are broken. Can be done with your .htaccess if you have one.

It seems to me that has been fixed.

BTW, the name change is a good idea, I would add to the list even the vintage radios, if any.
