Calibration drift?

Post by MaxPowers5 »

I have had the 9xtreme installed in my 9x for a couple weeks now and have had no problems until recently when my pitch calibration kept getting off. It is the only one that drifts, but it will drift as much as 20 points, causing the quad to flip immediatly. This happens to the real quad and simulator. After I calibrate the controller, the pitch numbers will jump around more than any of the other numbers and quite quickly raise to as much as 3 or 6 points above the initial calibrated number. It will constantly jump around, all the other numbers will stay still. If I turn it off and turn it back on later, it can be a lot more off. I do not know what is causing this. Can anyone offer advice?

It sounds like it could be a bad pot on your gimbal. Or the pot could be a bit loose. You will have to open the radio and investigate.

I opened my Turnigy 9x, poked around, hit things, tugged on cables, and gave it a good shake. Seems to have fixed the problem

I ordered some frsky gimbals anyways. Is there much benefit to install these gimbals when there is no current issue? Do the benefits out weight the possibility of messing something up?

Yes, the Taranis Gimbals are reliable, as the stock 9x Gimbals are not.

I personally can't say I agree with that... I've never had a problem with the stock gimbals. Not even a slight issue. The fact FrSky offers replacements possibly suggests some are having issues (although that's a leap in logic, I'll admit.).

Anecdotal evidence supports Bob though. Lots of people switch. Is it due to real problems, perceived ones, or just a sense of upgrade? Probably some of each.

I'm not saying he's wrong. But my personal opinion is to not change them if they're not giving you trouble.

I never had problems. over 5 years flying with 9x radios, never had one failing on me.
But I know people that did :)

In one radio (9x) that I had not used for a longer time I suddenly had an erratic stick pot.
I opened the pot, cleaned it, put a drop of conductive silver onto the connections and put it together again and it's working since then without a problem.
