My backlight appeared DOA. I checked the connector and wires for breaks and bad connections. Eventually I assumed that I had a dud and as a last resort I checked my wiring against the one shown in the install instructions and found that the blue wire was connected to the backlight power input and the black wire connected to the Blue LED but the black and blue wires in their correct connector positions.
Swapped the connector pins and Eureka it was working.

Re: Backlight Not Working - Check Wiring
Next time I'll specify they use a white wire for the +v instead of black. I bet what happened is simply caused by the blue and black both being dark and adjacent. Obviously it comes down to unfortunate carelessness and a need for improved testing procedures.
Anyway, sorry for the trouble and thanks for bringing it to my attention.
And good job on figuring it out!

Chinese like to use black for power. Another example are the 9x gimbals. Normally black is 5V and red is ground Do they just like to be different?

Re: Backlight Not Working - Check Wiring
There is no "normal"... or rather there are many normals. Black is often used for power, but it is also often used for ground (that's 100% clear, isn't it?). White is often used for power as well... and, guess what, its also typically the "common" which is usually ground. Again, clear as mud.jhsa wrote:Chinese like to use black for power. You say "red is ground"... in the US red typically indicates "hot" so in DC is most often the +V line and black is ground.
I would say the Chinese do it more often like the US. And yes, THEY like to be different They still use the measure of a worm and some dude's foot for distance, and cowboy hats for volume. And some German guy's sneeze for temperature. Its crazy.
Anyway, for wiring there really is no "standard" for what a color means.

No I said Red is ground on the 9x gimbal connectionss_mack wrote:

For me Red is positive and black is ground.
But for example for the AC wiring in houses, at least in Portugal (don't know in other places), we use black for Live and blue for Neutral..
