setting flysky9x with dm9(binding issues)

Post by albusrice »

Hi there i recently got my hands on a dm9 module to use with my flysky 9x but i can't get it to bind with my ar9000 receivers.

i think the problem lies with me unable to get the transmitter module into bind mode as the dm9 light remains solid orange instead or flashing orange.

i have tried the following settings:
1)
PPM
CH1-8
22.5ms
400u
+ and -
2) DSM2
RxNum 1
DSM2only
1st Chan 1
Range Check
and i have also installed the smartie parts board to flash the ersky9x firmware.

do anyone know how to setup the transmitter for the dm9 module to work or is there any other mods that i am required to do before i will be able to use the dm9 module on my flysky9x.

This may be some help: (viewtopic.php?f=96&t=9142&p=118300&hili ... le#p118273).
I think the settings works the same way with Taranis /opentx and 9Xtreme / ErSky9x firmware.

i re-read the page is there a need to change the mixer? if yes then i don't get the settings of the mixer in relation to ersky9x as there is no S1,S2 and etc. but a look up on google seems to not help at all as it doesn't show any difference

With the Taranis S1, S2, LS and RS are pots, FlySky 9x radio labels them as P1, P2 and P3.
I believe these Mixe setting have nothing to do with your problem.
What version of radio firmware and what modes (edit) mods are done on your 9x radio ?

For modes

i have only done 2

1)install the smartie parts 9xtreme board
2) the battery reverse polarity protection

as for radio firmware i am using ERSKY9X (revision 218) that comes with the 9xtreme board.

are there other mods i have to make for the dm9 module?

You should update your ersky9x9XT_rom firmware from the one that comes on the 9Xtreme Board,
Your can find it here: (http://www.er9x.com/).
Also here is a directory of information about 9Xtreme Board and using erSky9x and eepSkye: (viewtopic.php?f=95&t=7182).

I do not know if there is a mod needed for the dm9 module, maybe someone knows better with using dm9 module, who could help.

I don't believe openTx has been ported for the 9Xtreme board.
Do you have other Tx modules that are working correctly with the 9Xtreme? (To check the 9Xtreme is outputting a PPM signal correctly).

You need to test your DM9 with another radio, or did you already do it?

I've just remembered the 9XR-PRO module pins are shorter than those of other radios. It may be the the PPM pin (top pin) is not making contact in the module.

Measurements on some radios:
9XR-PRO - 10.5mm from rear of module bay.
9X - 11.5mm
Taranis 14mm

I forget too, that a new person may, has not yet done the module bay mod.
With the FlySky and Turnigy 9x radios the plastic around the 5 module pins needs to be removed to look like this:

Hmm.. I was thinking that might be possible but if the module is powered up will there be a problem with the ppm pin contact?

Could be yes, the pins are just about long enough so one might touch and the other not.

That plastic sleeve must absolutely be removed when using third party modules.

The JR standard need the pins protrude by 1/2" from the back of the module case.

it is easier to cut/grind it if you lift the back PCB. You just need to remove a few screws.
No chance of damaging the pins, and you have more room to work.

After removing my 5 pin board, I just grabbed, crushed and twisted off the plastic with a pair of pliers.
The standoff that needs to be removed happens to have a seam around it and very little "clean-up" is needed after ripping it off.

Open up your 9x radio and remover the PCB green back board.
You can then use a Dremel to mill the plastic away.
Some people have used different ways to remove the plastic pin support.
Remover the PCB green back board before removing <br />the module bay plastic pin supports.

Ok, you will need to do a test to see if your radio is outputting PPM on pin 1.

Please go to Radio Setup/Trainer menu. Now connect a trainer cable to the trainer port. any audio Jack to jack mono or stereo cable will work.
VERY IMPORTANT, Isolate all pins in the module bay except pin 1, so you don't have any short circuits between pins.. That could kill your radio. Don't skip this step.. Do this while the radio is still OFF, of course... :)

Now touch the tip of the other jack plug on pin 1. if you move the sticks now, you should see the values at the bottom of the trainer menu moving. Please report back.

Yes, remove the module and protect the other pins with something (not metal of course) so you don't short them when you touch pin 1 with the tip of the jack plug.

Turn the radio ON before, and only then insert the jack plug. Then go to the trainer menu. Now touch the tip of the other jack plug on pin 1 in the module bay.
Do the numbers at the bottom of the trainer screen move?

go to the main screen that show be output channels as bars. Do the bars move when you move the sticks?
Do you have the protocol set to PPM in the protocol menu?

Did you ever insert or remove the RF module while the radio was ON?
