Hey folks,
I'd like to connect my 9xr Pro to my linux laptop, so I grabbed an rc-to-usb adapter (one of these). I haven't been able to get it do do anything other than produce a seemingly random stream of events. There are some posts here and there that suggest various settings, but I suspect they may be for older versions of the firmware.
For example, several of them say "enable PPMSim", but that doesn't appear to be an option in the "Protocol" menu under "Model Setup". Choices are "PPM", "DSM", and "Multi". Selecting PPM and reducing the number of channels to 4 doesn't seem to change the behavior,.
There are some additional trainer settings that I'm unsure about; in the "General" menu (under model setup) "Trainer" can be set to OFF, 0, 1, 2, or 3. Is that some sort of port selection?
In the radio setup menu, there is a trainer source selection. Should this be set to "slave", or does it matter for this use case?
Thanks for your help,
-- Lars
Getting ersky9x (r220) to work with Flysky SM100 USB adapter?
Re: Getting ersky9x (r220) to work with Flysky SM100 USB adapter?
if you install one of the latest test versions of ersky9x, you don't even need the device you bought, as the radio can be recognized by the computer as an USB Joystick.
Then just turn the radio ON, and connect the USB cable between radio and computer. But you need to update the firmware for that.
If you want to use the adapter, please insert the jack plug in the radio's trainer port, and only after doing it turn the radio ON.
Many of those adapters do not accept more than 6 channels. some even only 4 channels.
Go to Model Setup / Protocol menu, set the protocol to PPM, 4 or 6 channels (test), and also try changing the polarity of the PPM signal. It can be POS (positive), or NEG (negative)..

Re: Getting ersky9x (r220) to work with Flysky SM100 USB adapter?
Well, that certainly sounds more convenient . Are there builds available of the current git master, or will I need to set up a development environment locally to test this out?if you install one of the latest test versions of ersky9x, you don't even need the device you bought, as the radio can be recognized by the computer as an USB Joystick.

Am I supposed to turn the radio "on" in this case? It powers up as soon as the jack is plugged in. Moving the power switch to the "on" position actually seems to stop all output on the trainer port.If you want to use the adapter, please insert the jack plug in the radio's trainer port, and only after doing it turn the radio ON.
As I mentioned in my post I've tried most of that already. Fiddling with the polarity seems to change the rate at which events are coming in to my system, but doesn't seem to substantially impact the nature of those events. I think if I can get the test version built and installed that sounds like the easiest solution.Go to Model Setup / Protocol menu, set the protocol to PPM, 4 or 6 channels (test), and also try changing the polarity of the PPM signal. It can be POS (positive), or NEG (negative)..

No need to compile at home, find the builds for test versions here:

Re: Getting ersky9x (r220) to work with Flysky SM100 USB adapter?
My mistake, sorry, DO NOT turn the radio ON. The radio will turn ON when you insert the jack plug in the trainer port.
For Ersky9x test versions please go here:
http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4676
Latest test version is:
ersky9xProvR221g2.zip
Extract the zip file somewhere on your computer, then copy the file "ersky9xr_rom.bin" to your radio's SD Card "firmware" folder.
Start your radio in bootloader mode and flash the firmware file.
Then you should also update the radio's bootloader. For that you need to start the radio in Maintenance mode by turning it on while holding both horizontal trims away from each other.
scroll down to "Update Bootloader". Follow the steps and select the same firmware file you have just flashed the radio with.
create a simulator model, after you turned the radio ON.
Then just connect the radio to the PC with the USB cable. Your radio should be detected as an USB Joystick.

João,
Thanks for the detailed instructions! Installed it, plugged it in, and...wow.
That is absolutely, fantastic, amazing work. @mikeb (do @-mentions work here?), if you see this, thanks! Far easier than mucking about with a questionable PPM-to-USB converter.
