Telemetry sudden stopped on XJT module

Post by voodoo614 »

I have an interesting problem. My Turnigy Pro with XJT module has been working great for the last year or so. The firmware is R219 from 10-1-2016.

I read some of the other thread, and my proto is set frsky and com 1 is inverted. The date and time is correct. But in the date/time setup screen, the year seems to twitch. wasn't sure if that is normal.

All of a sudden, yesterday when I was setting up a new quad, the telemetry stopped working. I thought it was the new FC. Today, I took my other quads to fly, and realized that none of my quads have telemetry anymore. I have not change any setting in the TX. I basically used only one model for all my quads. As far as RX, they are a mixed of X8R, XSR, X4RSB. I concluded that it is not a RX problem, but must be something with the TX setup or the XJT module. Before try to update firmware, is there anything else anyone can suggest I try.

Is.COM1 still inverted after the telemetry stopped working?
Maybe it is time to replace the RTC battery..

It was not, but I switched it back and telemetry is still not working. The inversion stayed even after I turn it on and off.

Since telemetry is not currently working with inverted Com, will changing the RTC make it work?

I changed the RTC battery. Started the time. Updated firmware to r220. Tried inverted Com 1 checked and unchecked. Tried on different quads. I am at a lost.

Tried to flash the XJT module and I could not update. It stopped at Finding Device and the progress bar never moved.

Used instructions from here

From the main screen press UP LONG, then LEFT several times to get to the "DEBUG" display. On the bottom line you should see "TelRxCount" folowed by two "numbers".
Is the first counting up? (A count of bytes arriving from the telemetry connection).
What is the second number?

The module should be sending SWR even if the Rx is not powered.

Re: Telemetry sudden stopped on XJT module

Post by voodoo614 »

The first number is 0001
Second is 0101

I read about this here. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=9957

So it seems that the XJT is not transferring any telemetry. I opened both the 9XR and the XJT. I didn't see anything out of place.

No SWR or RX values. Have all controls, so flying isn't a problem. Just telemetry. Like I said before, everything worked for the last year.

Weird.. :(
Please double check again that clock is running (and keeps the time and date), and COM1 is selected and inverted, and it stays like that when rebooting the radio..

Clock is running and keeps time and date. COM1 is selected from the photo I posted. I am confused whether I should have the box check on invert COM 1 or unchecked. Regardless, whatever settings I have stay when I power cycle.

I did some more digging. I wonder if the S.Port is bad on my Turnigy. This might be the reason why I can't update the XJT or get telemetry. I have another XJT on the way. If the problem resolved, I will know it is the XJT. If not, then I will know it is the Turnigy.

Here is a test you can do. Remove the XJT from the radio, then connect the top pin in the module bay to the bottom pin.
One way of safely doing this is to use a SPort cable, normally used to connect sensors to the Rx. Just use one of the three connections on the top pin (leaving the other two not connected), and then plug the corresponding connection on the other end of the cable on the bottom pin.
Power up the radio, then go to the DEBUG display and see if TelRxCount is counting.
If it is, then the SPort pin (bottom one) is connected internally OK.

I just tested this works OK.

For this test it doesn't matter, it will test the physical connection is OK.

I did the test and S. Port on the Turnigy is working. First number is constantly changing. Second number is 0101.

As for the invert Com 1, I am asking when I have the module in. Checked or unchecked.

Date/time are still accurate.

I think it is a module issue. Any other suggestions?

9XR Pro telemetry problems XJT module

Post by MacFly273 »

hi everybody!

I need help to fix that situation with my telemetry.
So, i've configure the XJT module(really with all parameters like the others who did it in the forum) for X8R D16... with a lipovoltage sensor.
I configured my telemetry on the V.1760-Mike ersky9x-r220.( i've updated my firmware. date: 04.12.2016).
the problem is when i put Com2 i've ctot and cvolt but no rssi(but voltage are correct) and on com1 i've all i need, rssi ctot and cvolt. I was happy since i turned off my radio, and turned on again and nothing! I changed to com1 and com2 and invert com1... i tried! Sometimes it will work again, but i don't know why(sometimes when i change the com it works again, but if i turned off my 9XR Pro it didn't) . So i tested an another voltage sensor and it was the same problem. I binded again, tried to bind directly with the bottom on the XJT but nothing work. Exactly nothing work ALL THE TIME. Is my 9XR Pro alive and could take her own decisions?

Thanks for answers

Go to" Radio Setup / Date Time" menu, and set the date and time. then invert COM1 which is what you want when using the XJT.

Check if your radio keep the date and time after turning the radio OFF and ON again. If not, replace the RTC battery.

@João

I have done this many times as I have mentioned. And I already told you I replaced the RTC.

Telemetry is still not working. The date/time is working and the settings stay when I power cycle.

I think João was replying to MacFly273.

You don't want to invert COM1 when using the XJT.
I suspect a problem with the XJT.
One more possible test.
The tricky bit is connecting the SPort signal from the back of the XJT to COM2. COM2 is on the FUTABA trainer socket. Looking at the socket with the word "FUTABA" the correct way up, the COM 2 input is the right most pin of the top row. Connect this to the SPort signal on the XJT.
In the telemetry menu, change the Telem COM port to COM 2.
Test to see if the TelRxCount number is now counting.

I used a solid core wire, 0.6mm in diameter to plug into the Futaba socket to make the connection when I just checked this works. I got RSSI OK, and it went to 0 when I unplugged the cable.

Mike.

I tried running XJT S. Port to COM2. Absolutely no TelRXcount. I guess my XJT is dead as far as the telemetry. The new one is coming and I will report back.

So got the new XJT and still no telemetry. Tried what you suggested with COM2, no TelRXcount for old or new XJT.

I guess XJT is good. Something is wrong with 9XR PRO.

Please use eepskye to read the EEPROM from your radio (Burn menu, Read EEPROM Memory to file), put the file in a .zip file and post it here for us to check.
A minor possibility is you have accidently changed the protocol setting from PXX (XJT) to PPM, although I would expect to still see TelRxCount counting.

Do you want the EEPROM with the COM2 or COM1 setting? And no, I didn't change XJT to PPM.

Either will do. I'm just wondering if some other setting has got changed so I'll try your EEPROM an see if my 'PRO works OK.

Here is the eepm file. I have combed through all the settings. I hope a second eye will help. I did not change any setting when this stopped working. Weird that COM2 is getting nothing and COM1 seems to be working, but still not getting telemetry on both XJTs.

Appreciate the help.

This really is odd, particularly since you have use two XJT modules.

Something for you to try:
1. In the telemetry menu:
Change the "Usr Proto" to "Mavlk"
Set Telem. Com Port to 1, invert NONE
Set COM1 Baudrate to 19200
2. Configure a switch to enable logging, but leave the switch off.
3. Power off the Tx.
4. Connect the COM2 Tx signal (FUTABA connector, rightmost position on the BOTTOM row (Rx position is on the top row), to the SPort pin (bottom pin) of the module connector.
5. Power the Tx on.
6. Now, not before, in the telemetry menu, change the COM2 function to FMSserial.
7. Navigate to the DEBUF menu and check the TelRxCount value is counting (number at bottom right is likely 0300).
8. Press MENU LONG to tick the box for "Raw Logging".
9. Start logging and log for 10 seconds, then stop logging and power the Tx off.
10. Connect the PC and power the Tx on, find the SD card hard drive and look for the logfile in the LOGS directory. It will have an extansion of ".raw".
11. Zip this file up and post it here please.
12. Start the radio normally and undo the settings you have just done!

This should test that the COM1 port is correctly receiving serial data, not just "something".

Tried to do what you said. There was not TelRXcount so I didn't even bother logging. Anyway, the TX is completely dead. Can't even turn on. It just makes a winding noise, but nothing on the LCD. The ready light glows, but that is about it.

I toasted the R9 resistor. After shorten R9, it is working again. But still not telemetry.

Also found out that the S. Port pin in the module bay sometime doesn't work.
