Hall sensor gimbals for the 9xr pro?

Post by Ronen »

Hi
I'm trying to source hall sensor gimbals for the 9xr pro.
I know of quanum 3 axis gimbals on hobbyking site but it's out of stock for a long time and I couldn't find them on other places like ebay.
I also saw the posts about the m9 gimbals but I understand there is a resolution issue with them.

Are there any other hall sensor gimbals that would fit the 9xr pro?

Thanks

There shouldn't be any resolution issue with the 9XR-PRO. The gimbals work at 3.3V, the same as the PRO uses for its own gimbals.. Now, I don't know about the mechanic side.. I have the feeling I already read about someone installing those gimbals in some other radio.. Not sure if it was a 9XR-PRO radio. Please do a little search..

Hi João,
True, and because the regular Taranis Gimbals have been fitted (modded to fit) into
the 9XR-Pro radio cases, I think these M9 Gimbals can be modded to fit also.
It seem most venders have the M9 Gimbals on back-order for now and seem to
run about $8 more per Gimbal then the regular Taranis Gimbals.
I believe someone, some where is going to do it, as they look to be smaller
then the standard Taranis Gimbals.
M9 Gimbal
M9 Gimbal
For other hall effect gimbals I think Ronen would need to make them like I believe you have done
with the older 9x gimbals (not sure you have modded 9XR-Pro into hall effect gimbals).
There is no resolution issue with M9 Gimbals when using them with the 9XR-Pro, Sky9x, Ar9X and 9Xtreme radios.

I found a store that has the m9 gimbals in stock, couldn't find anyone who did this mod on the 9xr pro so I'm volunteering to be the 1st one [emoji121] . Just to be sure before I order, they are electronically compatible and I just need to fit them in right?

Be careful with the polarity.. They ARE NOT like pots that can be connected with reversed polarity. If you reverse the polarity on the hall sensors you will probably damage them.

Just keep this in mind :)

M9 Gimbals installed into 9x radio case: (viewtopic.php?p=126398#p125297).
MikeB wrote: Fri Jan 20, 2017 3:29 pm Take care to check the supply and ground connections. The pots on the existing gimbals are OK if you get the power and ground swapped, but I suspect the hall effect devices would get damaged if that happens. (And don't rely on the existing wire colours, they seem to be a bit "random").

I guess I missed that post (with the pictures) Thanks.
I'm pretty good with my hands and I'm sure I can fit them ok, but the polarity issue has got me worried now, couldn't understand how to manage that. I already installed pr10 with no problem but I had youtube to help me. Anyway I'm ordering and hope you guys could help me with the wiring when I get there.
Thanks,

Yes, we can help walking you through making the correct wire connections.
I do not have a 9XR-Pro, but I believe João, who knows the 9XR-Pro very well,
will be happy to help too.

With the 9x radio's the color of the wires mean nothing :? and needs
be checked with a multimeter to verify which wire is Ground and
which wire is Power to there gimbals potentiometer connections.

I am not sure about the color wiring in the 9XR-Pro radios and to be on the safe-side
may be best that you check with a multimeter (label your wires) before you disconnect
your old gimbal wires.

Have a 9xR pro 3 axis gimbal in my Futaba 9c and the rudder, twist, just stopped working on one side? In reading prior entries, sounds like the Hall sensor quit working? (It does seem odd that it will work in one direction but not the other?) Would simply order another stick assembly from HK but they're out of them so, leads me to try to figure this one out? Any ideas about how I can trouble shoot it?

Thanks,

Hi cubnuts,
The Quanum 3 Axis Gimbal Upgrade (for 9XR-Pro) uses a magnetic hall effect sensor for each of the three Gimbal axis.
(viewtopic.php?f=122&t=8269)
Can you open-up your radio and look for broken wires ?
Maybe you could check (use a multimeter) to check the voltages to the problem (Twist/Rudder) magnetic hall effect sensor.
I do not know what your Futaba 9c radio voltages are in its Gimbal circuits.
You may be able to find what the magnetic hall effect sensor is and purchase one to replace, if it is bad.

Never used that gimbal but, I think it expects a power supply of 3.3V. What is the voltage your futaba radio supplies to the sticks?

It's an 8 cell nimh pack? Where should I put the probes to check the voltage at the stick? Had never considered that the voltage was incorrect for the stick?

We don't know if it is..
At every stick there are 3 wires. Positive, negative and signal. Measure between positive and negative, possibly red and black wires. Colors could be different though..

I wonder if the M7 Gimbals would be a better fit for the 9XR-Pro radios ? :?:
Could be the only difference from the M9 Gimbals may be the wiring for the Qx7.

I have a 9XR Gimbal and the M9 Gimbal.
Eyeballing the 9XR and M9 Gimbals with Digital Caliper, the dimensions are different between them.
Note: Eyeballing measurements may not be accurate.
M7 Gimbals Dimensions
M7 Gimbals Dimensions
M7: 62.0mm X 62.0mm / 48.4mm / 42.9mm X 54.0mm

M9: 62.1mm X 62.1mm / 48.1mm / 54.5mm X 54.5mm (Eyeballing measurements)

9XR: 56.7mm X 54.6mm / 47.4mm / 47.5mm X 46.0mm (Eyeballing measurements)
