Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
after trying to flash an ORX Module, my radio wouldnt turn on... no ready light, no voice, no lcd screen
Battery voltage was at 11.92 Volts
First unplug the battery then disassemble the radio
next remove the RF Board (the board that the module plugs into)
check R9 for ristance (Ω) should read about 1Ω
my R9 was reading 2 kΩ
The Fix: being careful not to touch anything else with the soldering iron, bridge R9.
R9 is a current sensor for the radio.. You will lose the current reading. Not so important anyway.
now my radio powers up

Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
Ok, you must have shorted something and too much current passed through R9 damaging it..
Did you also connect ground to the orange module you were trying to flash? This could have happened if the ground connection failed. make sure you have good connection. NEVER disconnect or connect anything while the radio is ON..
Keep calm, and take your time to do the things. You will flash your module, please pay good attention to what Mike says, and do it exactly as he says. read that PDF document again and again until you understand what you are doing.. If you don't, ask. We're here to help..

Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
I always turn the radio off to plug and unplug modules.
Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
You could have had a bad connection somewhere.. Something really took too much current because R9 got damaged..
Are you sure that you didn't connect battery voltage directly to where it should have only 3.3V on the module??
maybe some pictures of your setup could help.. But post them on the other thread please

Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
I know why it burnt up... and yes it was my fault... and I have it fixed now... actually fixed it before I tried powering it back up.

Attached are files showing how I have my module wired now for flashing
Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
If you know why it burn up it would be a good idea to share with us.. So we can tell you if you need to buy another module or notslimvulcanrider wrote:I know why it burnt up... and yes it was my fault... and I have it fixed now... actually fixed it before I tried powering it back up.

Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
oh sorry. I had several issues in one I think.. first I was trying to use the ar9x/skyboard configuration for the module bay connection, secondly my ground wire wasn't a good solder, thirdly I might have had the polarity from my battery pack reversed... the last one I don't remember for sure...
Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
Well, if you reversed the battery there are very good changes you also fried the module
Let's see if Mike has some idea how to find that out..

Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
while we wait for Mike to get back to us, heres another question...
... when setting up a module in the Model>Settings>Protocol, it asks for inernal and/or external Module... I am assuming that I can take my XJT module and make it internal?

Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
You could, but is it really worth it? I mean, is there space for it inside the radio? How would you power it ON/OFF? It will be always ON. I have a little circuit that power the modules ON and OFF via the radio software, but can you build electronic stuff?
I never tried it on the PRO. I have it installed in my Ar9x radio.
The PRO doesn't have much space for mods inside..

Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
I have never built anything this small, but have made ignition control boxes, and specialty fuse boxes for vintage Japanese motorcycles and automotive products. As for powering it up, why not do it the same way as the external module...
Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
External module is always ON. Having 2 RF modules powered at the same time and transmitting is not a good thing as far as I know. You could install a switch, But you would also have to mod the little board where the module pins are. I have never done something like that on the 9XR-PRO. And when I do, I'll install one of my little soft power boards for controlling both module's power. As I said this radio doesn't have much space inside

Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
I thought I read that inorder to get 16 channels with FrSky you had to run two XJT modules...
Re: Turnity 9XR Pro wont turn on
Nope, that is to get 32 channels
With one XJT and one X8R receiver outputting SBUS you can have 16 channels
