9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
Dear´s
I wonder if anyone can help me or indicate another source for research
I have a radio 9XR Pro + module FRSKY XJT and receiver X8R.
Next to the radio module connected the screen (FLD-02 FrSky Telemetry Screen Display) and by the X8R receiver connected the sensor (FrSky FLVSS LiPo Voltage Sensor With Smart Port). The hardware works all. The telemetry screen lights. The battery sensor also indicates the battery voltage, but I do not see the greatness in the radio screen and / or screen telemetry. I wonder about some configuration or procedure that should be performed so that the group can work. Thank you in advance attention.

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
First check, are the LiPo voltages displayed on the FLVSS?
Second check, is the FLVSS plugged in to the Smart Port of the receiver (by the antenna), and not the SBUS port?
Mike.

Dear MikeB
The battery voltage is displayed on the sensor and it is connected to port (Smart Port) RX X8R. I think it must be some configuration mode on the radio or bind that is different.

Here some information that can make you help me find the solution:
Radio: 9XR PRO - Original Firmware (HobbyKing)
Module: XJT
RX: X8R
Sensor: FrSky FLVSS LiPo Voltage Sensor With Smart Port> Connected to the Rx Sport port and battery balancer terminal
FLD-02 FrSky Telemetry Screen Display: Connected to serial port of the module XJT

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
Sorry, I've a bit slow spotting the problem!
There was a problem between HK and FrSky in being able to use the FrSky PXX protocol to the Tx module. This was resolved, but after the original release of the firmware, so the stock firmware doesn't support PXX.
All you need to do us update the firmware. Perhaps the best way to do this is to install eepskye on your PC. This will both find the latest released firmware, and flash it to your radio.
Specifically, you need the file ersky9xr_rom.bin from here:
http://code.google.com/p/ersky9x/source ... vn%2Ftrunk
Instructions for upgrading the firmware are available in the manuals, see here:

Dear Mike
I upgraded to the new firmware ersky9xr_rom.bin r214.
Now I have left to know is the configuration procedure to run the telemetry. Can you tell me the next steps?
best regards

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
For the FLVSS, the main two items you may be interested in are:
Cvlt - the lowest cell
Ctot - the total of all the cells
Select these two on a custom telemetry screen.
One of the manuals linked to above is "9XR Pro Ersky9x Explained 2014-07-06.pdf". This describes much of what you are asking.
Another manual is "9XR Pro Using Voice with Ersky9x 2014-06-06.pdf" that explains how to get these values reported using the voice output.

Mike,
isn't the FLD-02 designed only for DJT, DFT and DHT?
I doubt it will work with XJT and smart port.

Yes, the manual for the FLD-02 indicates it is for the DJT, DFT and DHT. It might work with the XJT if operating in D8 mode.

In the menu "telemetry", which the port options with baud rate, etc. should I adjust?

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
If you select the protocol for the Tx module as PXX, then the telemetry options for the port and baudrate should be set automatically. You will be using COM1, not inverted. The baudrate will be set to 57600, there is no option to select the baudrate for COM1 as it is automatically set.
With the XJT, you should use D16 mode.

Read the text you indicated and also this (http://www.eflightwiki.com/eflightwiki/ ... the_System). I followed all the guidelines.
But so far no telemetry information is displayed on the radio screen. Is there any check that I can do? View photos of the screens.

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
Only me being curious here.
Why the need of the extra screen if the radio screen shows the information for every model and the extra screen doesn't do that?
If you have models with different telemetry configurations the displayed data might be wrong unless you change the settings when loading other models..
Or am I missing some good reason here?

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
dear John / Mike
In fact the second display (FLD-02) is to display the data from the sensors connected to the receiver (D8R-II PLUS) that have not yet tested.
I'm currently using XJT module with receiver X8R and FLVSS sensor. But until now I can not display any telemetry information on the radio screen. I thank you and Mike who are helping me.
In FLD-02 the only information screen that appears is a bar at the bottom left which I believe is the RSSI. Only this.
I changed the settings to Frsky Com Port 1 and still does not work;-(
The receiver was made X8R bind as D16 mode.

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
I'm not sure you have the correct firmware installed.
The version screen should show:
SVN: ersky9x-r214
MOD: REVB-X
On the telemetry setup page with:
FrSky Com Port
the next line should be:
Invert COM 1
Are you sure to flashed ersky9xr_rom.bin? (Note the r after the x) ersky9x_rom.bin is for the SKY board upgrade for the 9X and doesn't have the Invert COM 1 option as the hardware doesn't support it.

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
dear Mike
The problem was actually the firmware. I had loaded the 9X instead of 9XR. Now with correct firmware everything worked wonderfully. Thank you so much. For researched in many places and found these valuable information about this powerful radio. I'm really enjoying it. For now I use a JR. But I was very surprised with this radio. Every day enjoying it more.
I would like to take one more doubt. The information that told me it, this radio was most used in electric models. Do you have experience of using this radio with combustion models? It works well?
thanks
Victor

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
I personally only fly electric, but the firmware is equally suitable for combustions power.
In particular, if you turn T-Trim ON, then the throttle trim only affects the low part of the throttle, providing control of your engine idle speed without affecting the full throttle position.

9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
Just to confirm that. I used my 9XR Pro all last season flying various glow-powered models. There's simply no reason it shouldn't be equally suitable for electric and IC power.
The things to watch out for with IC models are choice of a suitable receiver with appropriate signal diversity and proper protection of the receiver, battery and servos from engine vibration (and making sure the prop is balanced!). This is true regardless of the transmitter.
One more thing, make sure your receiver has proper failsafe to shutdown the engine on loss of signal.

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
Dear Mike
Still talking about telemetry. I have another Turnigy radio, this is a 9XR (not the 9XR PRO). my questions
The ersky9x-R214 firmware / MOD: RevB-X is compatible for this model?
Operating this radio with a Frsky DJT and rx D8R-II Plus, telemetry information can be displayed on the radio screen, or in this case, necessarily the information can only be displayed on the second display FLD-02 FrSky Telemetry Screen Display?
Thank you for your attention again.

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
For the 9XR you need er9x, not ersky9x.
Specifically, the 9XR is usually shipped with an ATMEGA128 processor, so you need er9x-128.hex.
There is a mod you need to do to get the telemetry displayed, but the firmware does support telemetry.
Have a search for "9XR telemetry mod" and you will find lots of information. It does require fine soldering as two signals need to be routed to unused processor pins, so you need to solder to these pins directly.
I recommend doing the mod using a RS232 converter, as this is also directly compatible with the XJT module, should you wish to use one in the future.

But if I do not want to change the radio board.
And with the combination 9XR + FRSKY DJT + D8R-II Plus and updating the firmware to ER9x-128.hex I can see the receiver's telemetry information through FLD-02 FrSky Telemetry Screen Display?
Best regards

Re: 9XR PRO FRSKY Telemetry
On the TELEMETRY menu there is a calibration value to RxV. Set this to 13.2V to start with. For the best accuracy, actually measure the battery voltage and adjust the 13.2 to give the correct reading (shown to the right of the configuration value).
