Re: er9x development

Sounds like we could maybe use a simplified class of output "channel" mixes for various in-radio functions? Like GVARs, but they're value destinations rather than sources. Audio volume, haptic strength, backlight brightness (just PWM on the appropriate pin... could be used for other devic...

Re: er9x development

Will the RX or TX module reject data IDs that aren't explicitly part of the hub protocol? If the FCB is parsing all the sensor values, there's no hub to worry about on the aircraft end of the connection... Just the RX. And since we're talking about er9X on the radio end of the connection, there's no...

Re: FrSky officially X9D announcement

And apart from that it's not like it's that hard to follow PCB traces in the first place. That depends on how many layers the board has. Some of the proprietary FPGA-based PCI boards at my last job had 8, and I hear PC motherboards often have still more. If any of those layers have ground planes, h...

Could you put a version tag in the eeprom to indicate the new (fixed) version? Have eepe check for the tag and convert/fix the eeprom if needed.

Re: er9x development

I'd actually like to remove all the specific telemetry alarms. That would make sense. The FrSky module has its own alarm function that might need code. But honestly, I never found the module alarm particularly useful over the TX's. I suppose it could be useful to folks that haven't upgraded to a Pi...

Ah, I see. So we really just need those existing alarm tones to be made available on the telemetry page and mix options. Making the tone/haptic parings adjustable might be nice. :)

Re: er9x development

You can already set an alarm by using a custom switch True. What I'm looking for is more options for non-visual feedback from the TX. The 3 stages of beeping work ok for "check the display", "there's a problem" and "your plane is on fire". I would like a bit more granu...

Re: er9x development

Speaking of telemetry, I have a few suggestions / feature requests (if you want a break from bug-hunting): A method of scaling and otherwise formatting (offset, smoothing?) the telemetry data so it can be used as a global variable. - The TX could automatically trim a model as battery voltage, fuel l...

Re: FrSky officially X9D announcement

Any rumors on a release date for Taranis schematics? I'm hoping it'll not be kept secret. IIRC, the available '9X schematics were pulled from an FCC (or some other similar agency's) approval/compliance document. If that's the case, it would be a matter of someone with the proper connections or know...

Servo speed/scroll/integral mix

MikeB came up with (or at least posted) this a while back, and per Rob's request here is a simple template. The mix lets the source control the speed of servo movement, rather than its absolute position. When the stick (pot, or whatever) is at center, the servo holds its present position, whatever t...

Re: er9X: How to use gimbal/pot to control servo speed?

That did the trick. I never thought of setting a channel as its own source. It makes perfect sense from a programmer's perspective, but I guess I had the impression that the values were more abstracted somehow. The value associated with SW1 even acts as a dead band at the center of the stick - the P...

er9X: How to use gimbal/pot to control servo speed?

Hey folks. I recently installed a PSP joystick on the back of my '9X with the intention of using it for pan/tilt camera control. Rather than have the stick position directly control servo position, I would like it to control how fast the servo is moving in a particular direction. With the stick at c...

Re: FrSky Tx (X12D)

I'm a fan of that approach. Manufacturers' intentional limitations on product features (aka cripplewear) has always irritated me, sometimes to the point of refusing to buy anything from the manufacturer. I have a Nikon D60 DSLR that doesn't do exposure bracketing. Bracketing is simply 3-5 frames in ...

Mmm. That's pretty much what I figured. So back on topic, if the Taranis does 8, 12 and 16 channels, is it in fact the "X12D"? If not, what is the Horus going to have that sets it apart? The lack of info on the FrSky new products page has me wringing my hands - the Taranis looks like an ex...

Re: FrSky Tx (X12D)

Huh. Not as huge an improvement as I would have hoped for, but still substantial. PPM is typically ~1-2ms per channel and ~10ms sync meaning 18-26ms update rate for 8 channel, and 26-42ms update for 16 channel.

Re: FrSky Tx (X12D)

Old post, but I'm checking out the new radios and thought I would chime in. To put things in my humble perspective, I envision a radio that transmits to a receiver that has 12 channels which output signals to a receiver with 12 servo plugs. Not some sort of mixing for virtual channels. Is the X12D r...

I whipped up a minimalist gimbal-amp board design a few minutes ago: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9882625/Screen%20Shot%202013-03-21%20at%2011.53.20%20PM.png It uses the MCP601, a single-amp package of the part in the design I posted back on page 1, and ditched the trimmer as it wasn't really needed. You...

Re: Stock/er9x Rotary Encoder

I've seen the same close clearance on both of my radios, so it's possible my original board design has the encoder a fraction of a millimeter too low. The main-PCB mount approach has some wiggle room to compensate... Screwing the board to the front panel doesn't have that wiggle room. Try slotting t...

I think this is probably the most difficult mod technical wise 6 dinky wires to the cpu. (other than replace with M128). Nah. The HK backlight panel is actually a good bit wider than it needs to be. The panel it self is just plastic, some diffuser material and reflective tape around the edges... It can be disassembled and cut to length as needed. I took about a quarter inch off mine with no ill effects.

Re: Sky9x Rotary Encoder Option

The three resistors are for connecting an encoder to the stock 9X main board. They let the processor use three of the LCD lines as both input (for the added encoder) and output pins (for LCD data), rather than just LCD output.
