Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Thanks Rob. If the screen is on say Custom Switches and I operate a switch to test a voice then it returns to the Main screen with a ! in the top right corner. If it is on the main screen when I operate the switch then it reboots with the splash screen coming up again but there is no ! when it arriv...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Unless it is on another screen?
I am using the ELEm switch with Play Value and 256 on Custom Functions.
A search of the English and French Manuals does not mention the * for rebooting.

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Ok I have read the manual about the Custom Functions but am not sure exactly when ON or ONm switches - is it when you select that model? I also have found that whenever I operate a switch the voice speaks and the screen flashes off and resets to the Main screen with the Timer on the lower half, irre...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Success at last!!!!! The firmware posted by Cam with the extended start time seems to work although I have not given it a thorough work out. Custom Switches/Play Track certainly works and I can select different tracks to play. A couple of questions: 1. If I want to add voices for model names where d...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Cam, A couple of comments from Mr RC-Cam that may be worth considering: Regarding SOMO14D's data setup spec of 1uS, it appears to be either a typo or a wild-guess from them. Waytronic (the chip manufacturer) uses 50uS min setup in their examples. Even though the 1uS setup works with your module, I r...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
I am using series resistors to interface between the voice module and the transmitter or my test rig. Abandoned the dividers as the SOMO data sheet suggests 100R to 470R series R.

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Ok I think I have found the problem - it's not the datasetup time but the start pulse width. A review of the SOMO-14D data sheet showed the following: Start bit pulse width 2mS min Write Datasetup 1uS min Clock High/low width 100uS min The Open9x firmware for the Gruvin board has a very low datasetu...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
I have the speech counting reliably from 1 to 100 on the test rig. The only change I have made is to not using resistive dividers between the micro (operating at 5v) and the voice module but just a series resistor of 330R. Moving the module across to the transmitter and all is silence but at least I...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Cam, Some success on the test rig having changed the SD card but far from reliable. I have been discussing my problems with Mr RC-CAM http://www.rc-cam.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3866-9x-rc-tx-voice-hacks-speak-9x-interface-project-blog/page__st__80 and he has highlighted a number of possible proble...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Looks like it must be my sound board. I will test it outside the 9x so I can vary the data setup time and make sure I know the conditions it works under. Mr RC Cam has been investigating various issues in this thread http://www.rc-cam.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3866-9x-rc-tx-voice-hacks-speak-9x-int...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Adding the extra delay does not seem to have made any difference. The delay between clock and data seems to be about 300/400nS. The Play Track values in the Func Switch menu starts at 256 and goes to 511 - I am using the standard English Voice file. Have you had any luck trying Voice and the Gruvin ...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Thanks for all your assistance. It looks like the data setup time is about 250nS - the data changes from 0 to 1 250nS before the clock changes from 0 to 1. I am using a somewhat ancient Tek 2215 scope so sorry no pictures and calibration could be off a bit. I am using r1464 of the code and I used Co...

Re: Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
This is an interesting Remark in the somo14d.cpp code under the send data routine: // Strictly speaking there should be a data setup delay in here of 1us // Be we don't like no stinking delays ! I think I need to add a setupdelay here because as far as I can make out there is no delay at all. As my ...

Gruvin Board and Voice Mod again
Following my previous problems with the voice mod I decided I ought to install everything properly in the TX case and with shorter wires. Oh dear back to square 1! The board is definitely working as I can short the Date wire to 0v and it continually plays message 0000. The Clock and Data signals are...

Ok, an update: I now have the haptic working! That was due to me not realising that all the circuitry was already on the gruvin board and all I had to do was connect the motor! Thanks Kilrah, yes I now have the play track/value entries in Custom Switches and have started to discover I can play vario...

Thanks Bertrand and Cam. The source for all my mods has been been the result of lots of reading and trying to understand the basis of the mod before jumping in. Re: No Voice on Gruvin pcb and Haptic
Another question about the connection of the haptic feedback. From the Defines I had assumed it was connected to PortD 7. Looking at the setup of the port: DDRD = 0b11000000; PORTD = 0b11111100; // 7:VIB, 6:LED BL, 5:RENC2_PUSH, 4:RENC1_PUSH, 3:RENC2_B, 2:RENC2_A, 1:I2C_SDA, 0:I2C_SCL But: DDRH = 0b...

No Voice on Gruvin pcb
I have done the mods for the Gruvin v4 pcb to allow voice control, using the Port H for the Clock/Data/Busy signals and an MP3 board from Sparkfun that uses the WTV020 chip. I used the latest version of Companion to select the various options including voice and uploaded r1464 to the Tx. At startup ...

Re: open9x on the Gruvin v4.1 board
I would also like to try the Open 9x on a gruvin 4.1 board. I have the gruvin firmware but that does not support the encoders.
Do I have to compile the code to make it suitable for a gruvin board or can I upload one of the binaries - if so which one?
Peter
