Re: moving from ER9X to Open 9x
Yesterday I flashed my TH-9X with opentx. I used the companion to "backup and restore" the eeprom. Looks ok. Only thing messed up was the timer trigger settings. At least I have not found any other errors yet. My turnigy 9x remains with er9x. Time will tell which one I will prefer.

Re: WARNING: Known problematic USBASP
After hard-wiring the USBASP programming dongle to the 9x CPU I tried to flash it with Open9x software. The programming repeatedly failed. Each time I tried, AVRDude reported a problem with the CPU's ID code. I had the CPU ID error also but it was solved by letting the "port" box empty on...

Just did my setup with DJT and V8FR-II. That flickering green got me nervous, why is it not steady? I had to google to make sure it is just fine like that

My Turnigy is with the pole type switch and my Flysky is with flat. I like the pole better. The flat switch is mechanically "most comfortable" in middle position, the pole one has solid notch in every position

Re: Backlight - EL vs LED
The Hobbyking claim of 60-90mA has been proven false by several people who have actually measured the current draw, period. You simply cannot feed 60-90mA through a 470 ohm resistor with ~10V, period. I still do not get your point. You are supposed to be someone who at least understands basic electr...

Re: Backlight - EL vs LED
The problems with the HK LED system, in my opinion are: they are (relatively) inefficient. Yes, I know people have said (as a couple of posts above) that it only uses xx mA but I think either there's a mistake in logic about how to measure current draw or otherwise there's a wide variance from one ...

It is also officially FCC certified in the USA.

Actually it is perfectly good heli radio as is. With fixed wing and telemery etc the open source is miles ahead but miles behind with helis.Rob Thomson wrote:I get the feeling they have realised that the only reason the 9x has done well is because of the Opensource firmwares.

Flysky "A" model (or V1 call it whatever you like) non frequency hopping system had satellite receiver. "B" aka the frequency hopping system replaced the "A" in summer 2010 if memory serves. "B" version does not have /need satellite.

The original manufacturer Flysky calls the rx revisions "A" and"B". FS-TH9X-A is the one with no frequency hopping and the rx's with satellite. Transmitter module is the TM-001 FS-TH9X-B is the freguency hopping version with the TM-002 module. http://www.rcmodelpart.com/flysky-fs...

The led panel is wired directly to battery power. It should not mess the lcd. Current draw is also minimal (15mA or so) so it should not really affect anything.

Re: Backlight - EL vs LED
It must be that the panel is a bit slow indeed. The bright backlight just makes it visible. You can dim it by fitting the 1k (or something) resistor. some 2-5k pot might be cool to adjust the brightness depending on lighting conditions. Or maybe a simple controller using LDR resistor http://www.tech...

Re: Backlight - EL vs LED
You have to increase the contrast value when fitting the HK led backlight. Otherwise it makes the display look "fuzzy" and the respond appears slow/weird indeed. It is just needs adjusting for changed conditions. The reason is the led is brighter than the el panel and it shines through the...

Re: Is it time for new HW to match the qaulity of the SW?
Designing a new PCB and buying high spec switches is no big deal but making a new case for sale is a business suicide. The injection molds cost a fortune even if you order one from China. Making a case of sheetmetal, plywood or cardboard etc can be cost effective but how many people like the looks e...

Most likely your issue is the driver install for the usbasp. That error means the avrdude cannot communicate with the programmer for some reason and the reason is 9/10 driver issue especially with those cursed vistas and sevens. I don't believe so on mine... middle positive, but there's a wire on only one side of that, and I don't see a shunt to the other side. So, that's why I said the worst that happens, *IF* the middle is stil positive, is that the radio just isn't powered. -Gyro I cannot be 100% sure about your case bu...

A) Yes, the "servo type" connector fits the 9X radio, and is wired correctly. Even if you put it in backwards, it would simply not be connected and turn on. That said, it is ALWAYS a good idea with Chinese goods to double check the polarity of original battery pack vs. what you received b...

The resistor is under the black shrink tube and it is not visible without cutting the tube. If there is no resistor, the leds would be bright as hell the split second before they burn out. It is simply impossible for the light to draw more than 20mA. You just cannot feed more than that through the r...

In the few posts above I mentioned the current draw of my BLUE HK led panel. The radio draws 120mA backlight off and 135mA backlight on so my backlight definitely draws 15mA with 9.5V HK li-fe battery. The light is bright for sure. I have no idea what is going on with your light. It should have a 47...

Re: hk backlight mod
I have measured the current draw. The whole Turnigy 9x with ER9X draws 120mA backlight off and 135mA backlight on. This leaves 15mA for the light. This was with 9.5V battery voltage. The backlight has a 470 ohm current limiting resistor so the measurement is in line with ohms law. Hobbyking claim of...
