Re: FrSKY X-Series receiver bricked (X8R no leds - bootloader corrupted?)

Well, today I tried binding the X6R that I ordered as a replacement (from Hobbyking as well). I wasn't able to get it into Bind-Mode. When powering it up in any of the documented Bind-Modes instead of a solid green and a flashing red LED I've got both solid, which isn't even mentioned in the manual....

Re: FrSKY X-Series receiver bricked (X8R no leds - bootloader corrupted?)

The whole reason for encrypted firmware files (and thus a bootloader that decrypts them) is to prevent 1:1 copies. That fully relies on nobody else than them having access to the bootloader file so it's obvious they won't give it to you. Yes, that's what came to my mind later this afternoon. I also...

FrSKY X-Series receiver bricked (X8R no leds - bootloader corrupted?)

Today I managed to brick two X8R receivers by trying to upgrade them to the latest firmware (XJT_NONEU_V20_build170317.hex.frk). I was using openTX 2.2.0 (BUILD 85863358, 2017-05-13) and followed the instructions given in Frsky's latest YouTube tutorial . The upgrade seemed to work on first glance (...

Re: Orange Module running MULTI protocol

I was under the impression that the AVRISP-II is not capable of PDI, never bothered checking tho. I've access to one at university, I'll try to flash my Orange module in some spare time. I can get a Dragon for the same price as an ATMEL ICE, however I prefer the protective case and the form of the I...

Re: Orange Module running MULTI protocol

Awesome work Mike, as usual ;) Since we're already discussing programming methods, I believe you were using an Atmel PDI Programmer to flash these modules in the past, would you mind sharing your experience with it? I'm considering to buy an Atmel ICE Basic at a steep student discount in the near fu...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

Is this documented anywhere you know of, of the top of your head? I guess the protocol would be identical or at least similar to the one the Deviation guys use for DSM2 and DSMX, since they are talking directly to the CYRF chip of the Devo transmitters via SPI, too. This would make the X1TXN module ...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

The DM9 module i got was used as an internal module for some Graupner Radio by it's previous owner I believe, and the onboard voltage regulator might have failed, I don't remeber. There is however a micro controller inside the DM9 modules which interfaces the actual tx module to the PPM pin. I don't...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

I had no luck with a module salvaged from a DM9 JR module, but I believe that the DX6i module does work in the 3 pin configuration like the Dx5e one does.
I've not yet seen it used in this configuration though, since the Dx6i is quite expensive if you just want it's module.

Re: DSM module

They sell this thing http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__38395__OrangeRX_USB_Firmware_Update_Kit_for_JR_Futaba_Style_Transmitter_Module.html for their older futaba style module. It is basically a prolific usb to serial converter, which means that at least the old futaba module should have a bootl...

Re: DSM module

I was surprised to see that they also have upgraded (again) their OrangeRX DSMX/DSM2/Devo 2.4GHz Selectable Transmitter Module (JR/Turnigy Compatible) . I don't know why they listed this one a few days before, but the most recent one has quite an competive featureset, very much the same as its futab...

Re: DSM module

Yes, I've stumbled across it some time ago, it appears to be based on the original MultiMod developed by the guys at deviationtx.com, but accepts an PPM input instead of SPI data due to its onboard micro. I do not like the physical construction of it though, being a sandwich of multiple cheap chines...

Re: DSM module

No, OpenLRS operates at 433MHz typically, it uses an HopeRF transceiver chip if I remember correctly. DSMX/DSM2 operates at 2.4GHz and utilizes the CYRF6936 rf chipset. Even the microcontrollers inside these modules are entirely different, OpenLRS usually runs on an atmega328 (aka Arduino), whereas ...

It's still up: OrangeRX DSMX / DSM2 Compatible 2.4Ghz Transmitter Module Fair enough, they repositioned the antenna connector, but they did not take the opportunity to redesign it properly (like the EzUHF module e.g.). Re: Maintenance mode on upcoming Open TX 2.0.16

Mike, does 'maintenance mode' depend on the actual firmware on the radio? I just tried to flash the ersky9x bootloader on my Taranis from within the SD-CARD MENU of openTX 2.0.17. Flashing worked flawlessly, but the bootloader was not usable, although booting. Is it possible to compile a firmware fi...

Physics don't care if something is dubbed a toy or considered harmless, basic principles of momentum and velocity do still apply and might as well result in lethal injuries. Make something heavy enough and give it a certain speed, or the other way around, the result is always kinetic energy. Therefo...

I do not like the regulative approach, but I have to agree with the licensing requirement. Everybody who wants to fly his Phantom or anything else heavier than e.g. 100g in a congested, urban or somehow regulated area would have to get a license for it, and doing so without the proper license should...
